★ ★ ★ ★ ★ El grupo étnico que predomina en Silacayoapam es el mixteco de la sierra y aunque no se sabe con certeza quienes fueron los primeros pobladores de esta zona se cree que provenían de la región de Teotitlán del Camino, de origen Teotihuacano, se instalaron en Apoala y posteriormente en Tilaltongo, en la Mixteca Alta.
Los primeros datos históricos que se conocen, son los que aparecen en los códices y que se refieren a la dinastía de Tilaltongo. Existían cuatro grandes señoríos: Coixtlahauaca, Tlaxiaco y Tilaltongo, en la Mixteca alta y el de Tututepec; en la Mixteca de la costa, estos señoríos, a su vez tenían bajo su erógena a otros de menor significado bajo el gobierno de nuevo viento.
Tilaltongo logró ejercer dominio sobre una buena parte de la Mixteca alta, el cual se consolidó y expandió por medio de conquistas militares y alianzas matrimoniales.
 The predominant ethnic group in Silacayoapam is the Mixteco of the sierra and although it is not known with certainty who the first settlers of this area were, it is believed that they came from the region of Teotitlán del Camino, of Teotihuacan origin, they settled in Apoala and later in Tilaltongo, in the Mixteca Alta.
The first known historical data are those that appear in the codices and refer to the Tilaltongo dynasty. There were four great lordships: Coixtlahauaca, Tlaxiaco and Tilaltongo, in the upper Mixteca and Tututepec; in the Mixteca of the coast, these manors, in turn, had under their erogenous others of lesser significance under the government of the new wind.
Tilaltongo managed to exercise control over a good part of the upper Mixteca, which was consolidated and expanded through military conquests and marriage alliances.
