We were so anxious about renting a car after hearing and reading all these horror stories of customers being pressured into adding expensive insurance which is why I am leaving a review for this Sixt because our rental experience went as well as it could have and we are so grateful for it! We were contacted via whatsapp the day before to confirm our flight info but we had to call the office/message them on whatsapp when we got to the shuttle area and did not see a Sixt representative. They picked us up within 15 min of the call and then another group from a different terminal. The paperwork to get the car took maybe 30 minutes but the gentleman helping us was very nice. He did ask us briefly if we wanted to add the insurance coverage but he did not keep pushing it when we declined. We opted to prepay for gas because they charge at the same rate as the gas stations. We received the car with a full tank of gas therefore we had to pay for the full tank no matter how much we ended up using. Worth it for us to avoid the headache at the gas station and having to exchange for pesos for just this one transaction. They took photos of the car when we picked up. Just make sure they mark every dent/scratch when you pick up and to have both license plates intact when you drop off. This ended up being a good rental experience for us and we will use sixt in cancun again.

This is the worst Sixt rental location I have ever been to. They tried to give me a vehicle with the check engine light on. When I expressed concern the gentleman that works at the counter says “this is normal, all of the cars are like this” only when I refused the car did I get another, dingy car. Thank God I stood my ground. The bathroom was atrocious. I mean…BAD!! The counters were not clean. The lady was nice and helpful and multitasked like a pro. Otherwise, never again…I gave them my flight number and arrival, also let them know when I landed the day of, still waited 40 min for the shuttle, which wasn’t a huge deal but why ask for my flight info if you’re not even going to try? I don’t get how they continue to get business. Edit: they’ll ask you to email them with some assumed intention to rectify the issues, but they never respond or do anything. So, again, what’s the point? NEVER AGAIN.

All in all, this was a smooth process! I read some tips for renting vehicles in Cancun online prior to reserving. One suggestion was to book directly through the company's website, not a third party (Expedia, Travelocity, etc ) and look for the inclusion of Third Party Insurance (this is a requirement for Mexico car rentals as US insurance is NOT accepted). I did so, and also added supplemental insurance. The tip also warned to expect a high deposit fee based on whether you got supplemental or went all the way to get full coverage. Since I didn't want full coverage, my deposit was $1700 (expected). At the airport, I was able to locate the Sixt employee that coordinated the shuttle service to the pick-up location, however the wait for the shuttle was a bit long. I winded up being told to get an upgrade as opposed to what I originally booked, which I did not appreciate. Cost of the upgrade was an additional $90. The inspection process was very smooth. I received a vehicle with a few minor scratches (properly noted) and a full tank of gas. Returning the vehicle was a breeze! I chose not to refuel myself, due to several reviews of gas station attendees scamming/stealing credit card numbers/swapping pesos. Sixt charged the going price for the 1/4 tank that I used and this was the far better option. The deposit I paid was returned within 1 business day. Lastly, I left a few gift shop items in the car and didn't realize it until I was in line to get boarding passes at the airport. I contacted Sixt through WhatsApp and they willingly brought the items back to the airport for me! Much appreciated!!

Beware!! Very high credit card holds compared to other rental companies in Cancun. The hold is $2000-2500 unless you pay $51/day for the insurance (on top of car rental fee) and they did not offer different levels of insurance. I saw other renters struggling with this. I will NOT be renting from this company again. On top of this, there was also fees and taxes added to the insurance, which was not mentioned when purchasing. I tried to pay upfront and the guy insisted that I wait until returning to pay the insurance fee at which time I found out about the additional fees for insurance. Overall not an honest or upfront company. I had much better experiences Europcar and America in Cancun.

Good car, was full of scratches and bumps when pick up, which worried me. Got many photographs of the car but you never know you miss a scratch.. But when arriving at checkout the business owner was satisfied and did not make any problem. Very satisfied sixt customer Negative: Waited an hour to get our car after we got to the Sixt Hide-out, which isn't in the airport itself. It was crowded, which is understandable. After a long flight it could be easier to pick up car at the terminal. Shuttle service was nice tough. Overall satisfied customer, 3rd time rental with sixt and never had any problem..

Great experience with Sixt. The nice thing about them was that the third party liability insurance was included in the rate I booked at. They asked if I wanted to purchase additional insurance. When I said no they did not push the issue and did not try to upsell. There was no wait at the counter. Wait for the shuttle was also minimal. Only negative is that the car was not new and it showed. Car had 55,000+ miles on it but I had no issues with it. They will take a large deposit on your card but you will get it back.

We booked online and paid around 440€ for 2 weeks in September 2021. The service was friendly and welcoming. Their English is very good and they know their processes well. We received a Chevrolet with good condition and aircon. The car had a few bumps but we listed them all on the first protocol. The hand over at the end was very short and without problems. The only negative point was that we could not receive the car at 12am, because we booked for 2pm pickup.

Car rental places always get bad reviews so I'll leave a good review here for Sixt. They had good prices and didn't push any insurance on me. I said I had my own collision damage waiver and that was fine. They got me in and out quick and didn't make too much fuss about the inside of the car being clean. I cleaned it out but it wasn't spotless or anything. Note that you have to call for the shuttle so if your phone doesn't work in Mexico you'll have to get someone to help you at the airport.
