SUCESOS is a family-run business that began its journey through the history of Puerto Vallarta beginning in the late 1960s. The artwear line owes its conception and creation to artist Héctor Lomelí, who began his innovative designs with the intention of reflecting Mexico energy through one of its timeless resources: cotton. Lomeli had discovered that distinctive Mexican cotton weaved into muslin could be crafted into lightweight, comfortable and fashionable clothing in addition to its common use in home décor. 

By the 1980s, Lomelí had opened his own boutiques in Puerto Vallarta with devoted repeat customers while the evolution of his innovative cotton garment designs continued. In 1997, he introduced a brand new Sucesos concept that would transform the clothing line forever: the use of his distinctive cotton as a canvas to produce hand-painted, one-of-a-kind clothing.

Today, while Sucesos maintains the spirit and energy of Mexico, each season brings new evolution to Sucesos.

Our process

Our process starts as we and our weavers select the finest natural fibers for producing our distinctive lightweight cotton. Using this signature woven cotton as a canvas, we paint a maximum of 3 yards at a time in a personal free brush technique. After a few hours, when we consider our painted textile complete, we select favorite sections of the ‘canvas’, best suited to the the garment we have in mind. The vivid cloth is then cut and sewn by our team of seamstresses, all of whom have high couture experience. We then inspect every garment throughly to ensure every detail is perfect.

Our mission in the world

We believe art heals the soul and everyone should be directly involved to some extent with some form of artful expression. Every purchase supports a local non-profit organization called “Barriguitas llenas” (‘full bellies’), with meals and art materials. (You can read more about this worthy cause at: https://www.facebook.com/Barriguitas-Llenas-oav-1483282835228072/?fref=mentions).  Barriguitas llenas provides kids, with a safe space in a violent neighborhood: here they can play, learn, and —  most crucially —  be surrounded by love and respect. By supplying the kids with art materials, we hope to influence their development from an early stage, providing them with tools to enhance their sensibility and improve their mental and emotional well-being.
