★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is magical in Oaxaca Zapotec tradition. Highly enlightening due to the trilingual skills of the owners. English, Spanish & Zapotec spoken here. Owners were so friendly, as if they got more joy from sharing their weaving, color creating and blending skills and history. There was no pushiness on their part for us to purchase their beautiful hand woven works of art. It was a real treat that only occurred because our bilingual driver, Mr. Evelio Morales Ramos made the time to add this destination to our day trip. Highly recommend visiting CASA OLLIN when in Oaxaca.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a weaver's cooperative. There are working looms, and they do a nice job of explaining how the various natural dyes are obtained and used. We had been to an exhibit at Belles Artes on the cochinilla (beetle that is dried and crushed to produce red pigment) and did not really understand the process until it was explained here. We ended up buying a beautiful small rug for our kitchen for about $150 US.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Taller Casa Ollin is a great stop if you are near Oaxaca, Mexico. A free tour is provided upon your arrival which takes you through all the steps to make a beautiful rug. The family that runs the weaving workshop is very friendly and enthusiastic about the weaving process. The rugs they create are incredible and seeing the amount of work that goes into each one of these pieces of art was an amazing experience.
