★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Es una galería muy joven, con pocos trabajos presentados realmente. Suelen hacer catas de mezcal y un par de reuniones con música en vivo. Si estás visitando Oaxaca como turista es una opción para conocer las tendencias artísticas de la región.
 It is a very young gallery, with few works really presented. They usually do mezcal tastings and a couple of meetings with live music. If you are visiting Oaxaca as a tourist it is an option to know the artistic tendencies of the region.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excelente galeria que alberga gran variedad de salas que muestran la pura escencia de la historia de Oaxaca. Es muy amplia por lo que es recomedable te tomes al menos un par de horas para visitarla.
Excellent gallery that houses a variety of rooms that show the pure essence of the history of Oaxaca. It is very wide so it is recommended that you take at least a couple of hours to visit it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Este lugar es uno de los mejores espacios para poder ver y aprender del arte local de Oaxaca tienen increíbles obras de arte puedes ver a los artistas trabajando así como platicar con ellos, son muy amables y divertidos además tienen experiencias de arte con grabado y grana cochinilla aquí podrás aprender sobre la cultura de Oaxaca y el calendario zapoteca, no te puedes perder de estás experiencias es la única en todo Oaxaca, pregunta por ellas!
This place is one of the best spaces to see and learn about the local art of Oaxaca, they have incredible works of art, you can see the artists working as well as talk with them, they are very friendly and fun, they also have art experiences with engraving and grana cochineal here you can learn about the culture of Oaxaca and the Zapotec calendar, you cannot miss these experiences, it is the only one in all of Oaxaca, ask for them!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our wood carving and printing class with Isvaan was outstanding! Isvaan is an incredibly knowledgeable and talented teacher and artist. We learned so much about the Zapotec calendar and tradition through Isvaan’s explanations and experiences. We had a blast making our own designs based on what we learned about our birth dates from the Zapotec calendar. Isvaan was so patient and helpful throughout. The prints turned out great and most importantly we greatly enjoyed the process! I highly recommend a class from Isvaan and taking a look at the amazing gallery at código tonal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I can’t recommend this wood printmaking workshop highly enough. Issvan, the instructor and skilled wood print artist is delightful and passionate about this trade and teaching! We learned all about the history, symbolism, and carving techniques of wood prints. Before getting started, he looks up and explains the significance of each participants’ unique attributes according to the Zapotec calendar, which you can then use in making your print. He taught us how to carve the blocks and gave us tips and guidance along the way. He’s super patient and encouraging. He also shared the history of Zapotec culture along with some mezcal.
Later, we ran the carved blocks on specialized paper through the printing press and went home with five prints and precious connections and memories. We’re going back today to buy some of his gorgeous and unique work!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is wonderful. Issman’s workshop was tailor made for the solo traveler who maybe saw Monte Alban but couldn’t go to the cultural museums due to covid — like myself! I learned a lot about the different mixtures for natural pigments, all new info for me. I was looking for more information about Zapotec codex and astrology, and Issman is quite knowledgeable in these areas as well. Not only art! He clearly takes his work seriously, and his enthusiasm for local culture, art making, and teaching comes through. The workshop was unpretentious and easy-going with some of Issman’s friends hanging out in the gallery during the workshop, making art and also contributing interesting elements to the topics of the workshop. I felt instantly comfortable with them. Issman was a kind and patient teacher for me (and I speak no Spanish). I recommend to anyone and everyone! Grana cochinilla is MAGIC.
