Get waxy ? ??????????? ???????????? ??? ????: Surfing has been around for hundreds of years, but surf wax reportedly started in 1935, when a then-teenage Alfred “Al” Gallant Jr. applied a small amount of liquid floor wax to the deck of his surfboard, and liked the results. Prior to that, many surfers would used a sand/infused varnish on their decks, which caused painful scrapes across the body. Today, paraffin-based wax is the standard, and most surfboard wax even comes labeled with a water temperature range for which it is ideal. Wax used in water colder than its rating will become hard and not provide the stickiness needed to stay on the board, while wax used in water warmer than its rating may melt. When the salt water comes in contact with the board, the board can be damaged. This makes application of the correct type of wax important. ???????????? Mr. Zog’s Sex Wax is the only kind I’ve ever used, but I recently found out that the reason is has it’s circular shape, is because they used to pour the melted wax into empty tins of tuna!
