★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De acuerdo a los lienzos del fundación de la ciudad, se tomaron parte de las tierras del barrio de Santa Cruz para construir este templo que albergaba una de las cuatro imágenes que fueron traídas de España cuando se fundó la ciudad. Desafortunadamente al pasar del tiempo ha ido perdiendo muchas obras de arte sacro que han sido saqueadas, cada vez que lo visito está más austero. Debería de haber una catalogación del arte sacro y su debido resguardo.
Generalmente está cerrado y está resguardado por los mayordomos del barrio.
Su fiesta patronal es el 29 de septiembre, anteriormente se hacía una gran fiesta en el barrio donde había celebraciones religiosas, bailes y hasta palo encebado. En la actualidad se realiza un tapete en el atrio, repique de campanas y celebraciones eucarísticas.
