Thrifty Car Rental - 45659 Guadalajara

Sketchy service from the start. We arrived at the desk after our arrival, and there was no one to assist. I called the number provided through google search, and it was not in service. I then called the number that was left at the desk several times, and no one answered. We then had to walk to the actual location to get our car. When we returned the car, there was no one at the actual location but the doors were open, but no one on the premises. We had to wait over 20 minutes for someone to show up. I would not recommend.

As multiple other people have commented they tried to pull a scam and charge is almost 500 dollars in just insurance. Waste of time to come here and that they didn't provide this information until we arrived here. I would not recommend this place at all. The fat guy with glasses was super rude.

Booked tickets through Hotwire. Added insurance through Allianz. When we arrived, they pulled the scam saying insurance was not valid in Mexico and we needed to but insurance through them at $950. They explained that this was Thrifty policy. If I could give them a negative score I would. For all the money they are scamming, they should be able to afford a better building or some signage at the airport. Complete disgrace.

Horrible experience with this car rental company. I got the rental through Expedia as they had ok reviews, they set me up with a price plus their insurance, when I arrived at the location and asked for the total they charged me close to 120 dollars over the set amount on hidden fees and added insurance which I didn't need. When asked about it they were rude and had no idea what customer service is, gave me a different car than the one I got, complete downgrade. Asked to cancel and they wanted to charge me half the final price for cancelling, had to wait close to 40 minutes to get the car even after agreeing to their ridiculous price, car was all dented and scratched. Never going to rent with this company ever again, stay away from here, plenty of other rental companies that are better, we found out about it afterwards.

This car rental agency is a scam. I reserved with my credit card online, which I’ve been doing for several years in plenty of countries. They told me I had to purchase their CDW insurance because my credit card didn’t cover CDW (collision damage waiver). I called my credit card agency and had them fax a letter of proof and they still said no it doesn’t cover in Mexico. On top of my credit card insurance we have Mexico car insurance that covers 3 million mexican pesos, after I had that policy faxed over, which is the best coverage in Mexico and United States, they also said it didn’t cover. I’ve rented several times in Mexico and never have I been told it is required or you can’t rent to purchase their insurance. I called thrift cooperate and they said I did not need to purchase the insurance but I had to leave a hold on my credit card for $2500 dollars. I mentioned this to the agent at thrifty and he said yes I had to leave a hold and still buy the insurance. My rental was reserved through my chase credit card and the week cost $180, their insurance was $300 more dollars for just CDW. Don’t get scammed by this agency. You are not required in Mexico to purchase the insurance!

This place is shady. They force you to get there own insurance at a outrageous price. Buyer beware

DONT RENT FROM THRIFTY IN MEXICO! They gave us a car that was empty of gas and charged us the prepaid amount hoping that we wouldn’t understand the contract. Shady.

Horrible experience, horrible staff. DO NOT rent a car here. They DO NOT honor Expedia reservations and I was told exactly that. They left us with no car at 2am, with no alternatives and not even an apology. And Expedia was NO HELP. I can’t say enough how bad this place is. I wish I could give zero stars.
