 I go often. I like that atmosphere, although the merchants are priceless, you have to look for them and haggle until you get a good price.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Prices are high. The antique part is quite small. If you want to buy cheap clothes than this is great. Food expensive. We ate at a meat place for 4 people paid 670 pesos. Quite high. If it's hot it's inconvenient to walk around. There are too many people and it's quite dirty. Prices for everything are just too high and focused on tourists. If you don't speak Spanish i suggest you make a friend or bring someone along that does. We are locals btw. We live here, just don't go often or at all to Tianguis. Today was my first time actually and last. Regarding safety. No police or security to be found. But it's quite safe. Just don't bring a lot of money with you. And no purses.
