Tipos de expresión del arte Huichol
Un tipo de expresión artística del arte huichol son los cuadros de estambre, que se elaboran sobre tablas de madera con cera, o las piezas que se trabajan formando figuras con chaquira sobre bules, violines, tortugas, etc.
Estos trabajos artesanales se pueden clasificar en dos tipos: los que se elaboran con fines comerciales y los que reflejan vivencias religiosas.
Otra expresión son las obras que están hechas con chaquiras ó con hilo (estambre), cada una lleva simbólicos motivos, historias de la cultura huichol y leyendas huichol de su cosmogonía que nos ofrecen un panorama de la sociedad Huichol.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Raul is a great salesman, very knowledgeable of the symbols and we've made many high dollar purchases. He demos all the art that is purchased. I love watching them back in the states when not at the store learning about the peyote usages to create this beautiful art. His enthusiasm about the art sucks you in while entertaining onlookers about the symbols and how they tie into the story of each piece is amazing!!! Recently we bought two horse heads that are just stunning!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have never a Maps searched for a place with the sole purpose of creating a review, but in the case of Tierra Huichol I just had to. While they have a lot of really cool items in their store, it was their customer service that really impressed me enough to leave this feedback. They were extremely busy the day I made my purchase, and my package accidentally got switched with another. I didn't realize this had happened until I returned to the US. Long story short, when I contacted them, Salvador and the folks at Tierra Huichol went above and beyond to get me the item I purchased as well as the one I brought home to the correct purchaser.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice shop with helpful staff. They wrap your purchases in bubble wrap so that it is ready for travel. The only downside is that their prices are high and they don’t negotiate. There are other locations where you can watch the craftsman create his pieces and usually negotiate prices that are half the prices of Tierra Huichol.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I purchased my second sculpture from Tierra Huichol recently, and once again had a great experience dealing with Ana Maria del Valle. She did a wonderful job both times packaging my sculptures safely for travel. This last time the packaged sculpture went with me in a taxi, on a bus, ship and plane and survived going through security screening at the airport. I unwrapped the sculpture as Ana Maria told me to do “peel it like a banana” and had no problems. These ‘Day of the Dead’ sculptures are pretty fragile and I have to thank Ana Maria for taking the time to package mine so well. I’m sure I’ll be back for another next time I visit Vallarta!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I previously purchased smaller pieces however on a recent trip I had my heart set on the cow skull. I was nervous about reentry to Canada with it esp being a larger price tag on the piece I was assured by Enrique, Tierra Huichol has done there homework and provided me with a CFIA(canadian gov agency) HS number. There was some stress going through security as well as getting it on the plane. Low and behold even though the airline check in agent guaranteed we wouldn't get it thru security at PVR Airport...we did! It seriously was such a tight fit through the xray machine. We were also on a newer max8 aircraft which has HUGE overhead bins on board. Our flight attendant was so understanding. Canadian customs looked up the HS code and of course ohhhh'd and ahhhh'd at how beautiful it is. The piece is now proudly hung on my wall!!! Thank you so much Enrique for assisting us and ensuring a smooth journey.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We found a lovely pair of (Katrina) bride and groom statuettes for our friends getting married in PV. They will carefully box so you can take on the plane. Maria and everyone there was warm, helpful, and kind!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I initially recognized the name from an online blog, but we were drawn in by the beautiful colors.Looking around the gallery/store is an experience in itself. We spent half an hour just browsing, while getting (just the right amount) of information about the background and symbolism of the available art from the people working there. We purchased several small statues as souvenirs for back home.
I read in another review that the prices are high, but all of it is handcrafted and unique, and as tourists and we are here to give back and support the locals. I highly recommend Tierra Huichol to everyone!
Note: it is possible to pay with credit card, but cash is preferred.
