★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Este peculiar edificio que siempre has visto al pasar por Insurgentes Norte, en realidad, es un edificio de oficinas y su nombre es: Torre Insignia.
Para 1966 cuando terminó su construcción, obra del arquitecto Mario Pani, fue el segundo edificio más alto de la Ciudad de México, tan sólo después de la Torre Latinoamericana. Todavía es la estructura más elevada de la Unidad Habitacional Nonoalco Tlatelolco, con sus 127 metros y 25 pisos.
Sus fachadas están cubiertas por vidrio y mosaico. En la parte alta exterior, destaca el mural abstracto del pintor Carlos Mérida, que semeja la figura de un águila en descenso. Ahí mismo, pero al interior de la torre, se encuentra el carillón de 43 campanas que Bélgica regaló a México por el 150 aniversario de su Independencia. Las cuatro campanas más grandes tienen los nombres de héroes nacionales.
Desde su inauguración y hasta 1995, aquí estuvieron las oficinas del Banco Nacional de Obras y Servicios Públicos (Banobras).
Actualmente la Torre Insignia alberga las oficinas de la Secretaría de Educación Pública y es un referente obligado para los habitantes de Tlatelolco.
This peculiar building that you have always seen when passing through Insurgentes Norte, in reality, is an office building and its name is: Torre Insignia.
By 1966 when it was completed, the work of the architect Mario Pani, it was the second tallest building in Mexico City, just after the Latin American Tower. It is still the highest structure of the Nonoalco Tlatelolco Housing Unit, with its 127 meters and 25 floors.
Its facades are covered by glass and mosaic. In the upper exterior part, the abstract mural by the painter Carlos Mérida stands out, which resembles the figure of a descending eagle. Right there, but inside the tower, is the 43-bell carillon that Belgium gave to Mexico for the 150th anniversary of its independence. The four largest bells are named after national heroes.
From its inauguration until 1995, here were the offices of the National Bank of Public Works and Services (Banobras).
Currently the Insignia Tower houses the offices of the Ministry of Public Education and is an obligatory reference for the inhabitants of Tlatelolco.
