My family booked a trip to Xcaret for 8 adult, 3 children, and 3 children under 5. The travel advisor Dafne told us that travel will be included in our price. When she came she said that taxis charge a fee to get in and a collectivo would drop us off in a dangerous part of the highway. She had us pay more for transportation so we didnt have to be there for 14 hours, saying it was our only option. We paid with credit card and $290 cash. Due to 2 people violently throwing up, we had to cancel our trip to Xcaret within 10 hours of booking. The travel advisor said there would be $100 penalty for the transportation and she will see how much Xcaret charged for penalty. Later she told us they charge 25%, even though online it says 10%. I asked her why online it says 10%, and she said we didnt give 24 hour notice. We booked 12 1/2 hours before we were meant to go. We called 2 1/2 hours before we were meant to be at the park to cancel. She said we cancelled the last minute. I called the number on the receipt she gave us and the owner said hed call xcaret to make sure we dont us the tickets. Later he said xcaret will refund us for the tickets. I asked about the cash that we gave towards tickets and he said hed ask Dafne about it. She said that now we have to pay for all of the transportation and not the $100 she said previously. She said she would only give is back $90 cash. I asked how we would get it and gave my PayPal, venmo, and cash app names, so she could send it electronically, since we were leaving at 10am the next morning. She said shed leave the money for me to pick up at 11am the next morning. I told her we would be gone by then. She then said she left it at the concierge and I could get it at 10am. Our hotel room is only a few doors down from the concierge, she could have gave it directly to us easily, plus the concierge was closed. The manager, that is also the concierge of our hotel said he wasnt aware of any money being dropped off. Not only did she keep $200 for transportation, instead of $100 that she said it would be, but she made it completely impossible for us to get the cash, even if she did drop it off to the concierge. I gave her option to easily transfer me the money and she didnt. The owner of the company says she doesnt work for him, but she gave us a receipt with his company name on it and he does business with her. So she represents his company when his company is a part of the transaction and we get a receipt from this company. Do yourself a favor and book directly through the places you want to go to, otherwise the travel advisor will try to take advantage of your situation.
