Este municipio fue fundado en el año de 1811 y decretado como municipio por la Cámara de Comercio Local el 15 de marzo de 1825.
Las fiestas de San Juan Bautista se celebran el 23 y 24 de junio en honor al Santo Patrón.
The name of Tuxtepec means: "On the hill of the rabbits", it is formed from the words tecnochtli: rabbit and tepetl: hill; techtepec.
This municipality was founded in the year 1811 and decreed as a municipality by the Local Chamber of Commerce on March 15, 1825.
The festivities of San Juan Bautista are celebrated on June 23 and 24 in honor of the Patron Saint.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Es bonita la ciudad, mucho comercio y aun así los precios en muchos productos son accesibles, tengo entendió que algunas calles el centro están un poco descompuestas porque están arreglando las conexiones de agua, las calles están limpias, desconozco si solo sea el centro pero en las zonas que camine no encontré perros abandonados.
Si van lleven repelente por los chaquistes son mosquitos y dejan horrible y duele su picadura, el bodega aurrera, esta muy desordenado y da el aspecto de que esta sucio o muy abandonado.
The city is beautiful, a lot of commerce and even so the prices of many products are accessible, I have understood that some streets in the center are a bit broken because they are fixing the water connections, the streets are clean, I don't know if it is only the center but in the areas I walked I did not find abandoned dogs.
If you go, take repellent because the chaquistes are mosquitoes and they leave horrible and painful bites, the aurrera winery is very messy and gives the appearance that it is dirty or very abandoned.
