This inconspicuous little consular office is a few blocks away from the ferry terminal in Playa del Carmen. If you cross the highway, you've gone too far. It's mostly US citizen services but they might have some useful advice for others...

My experience was nothing short of miraculous compared to other agencies I've dealt with--the service speedy and excellent and the agents kind, friendly, and not the least bit pretentious. I can't say enough good things about my experience here! Such a great place!

Being an Expat for over five years, I ran into trouble with a Crook Apartment Owner, and everybody was WONDERFUL!!! Very professional and to the point. I even got off track and was talking about a Security Guard that was robbing me too, and came in Police work, asking all the right questions!! Made you Proud to be an American!!! Thank you!!

Note that sometime in early 2017 this consulate moved to the Ejido side of the carretera Sort of across from Sam's Club - the location shown on the map is now finally correct. There is NO signage on the street or really even very noticeable on the building except for the Consulate sign (the Eagle in the circle) on the wall next to the door. It's easy to miss unless you know to on the second floor. Facing the building, the elevator is back in the left corner, and (the only) bathrooms back in the right corner down a hallway. That said, the service I received here was fabulous, and the feedback I've heard about this office from other US expats is similar. Note that as a tiny office, a good part of their stuff will get redirected to other (mostly Mexico City) offices. This is not saying they will tell you to go there, but rather that this office can facilitate getting things going then sending the remaining actionables to be done (not you when possible) on to the other offices.

It was a good experience. We had to be there once and it was done in the same day. That’s how Mexican establishments should work. Everything should be done in the same day. Happy that all the papers we had were enough to get the passport renovation. UPS took some time to send us the passport but in the end it all turned out pretty well.

Easy parking … you MUST get an appointment! When using a notary try to have the documents only have 1 signature because they charge by the signature ($75 each) … we closed on a home from Mexico and when done could have flown back cheaper

The staff here are absolutely amazing. I had an unfortunate event happen while visiting playa del carmen where my belongings and passport were stolen. The agents at this consular were extremely helpful and efficient in getting me a temp passport and even went above and beyond helping me with directions on how to get a police report. I can’t say enough great things. Thank you to the staff here.
