★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were on the City Tour with Chili Willy as our guide. Very knowledgeable and funny. Enjoyed stopping at the Centro Market & Cathedral to walk around. Also appreciated the info regarding restaurants, entertainment, etc.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely NOT amazing, commercial tour. They brought us to expensive tequila shop, silver shop and provided small excursion in Mazatlan down town. At the end was provided poor and not tasty lunch... Wasted money for nothing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The your I went on 2 days ago was supposed to be from 9:45am until 4:15 (give or take a few minutes of course) but the church was closed so we couldn't go in. There was no back up plan by the tour company so we just carried on to the next stop... That issue combined with the fact there were only 5 of us made for a very short, extremely disappointing day. We were dropped off at our hotel before 2pm.
The driver, Pedro, was really good. Super friendly and jovial.
The tour guide, Susana, was wonderful, dynamic personality and exuded pride in and love for home, Mazatlan. She told stories about Mexico's history that both educated and entertained.
My biggest issue with this tour wasn't even the short tour really, things happen... What bothered me was Susana, she was always rushing us here, rushing us there... She kindly took me in to a store (the driver, I believe needed something) while there she was repeatedly telling me hurry, hurry, I can't make the cashier go any faster than she goes, she was almost frantic and she made me so nervous I left a pair of very expensive designer/prescription sunglasses behind.
She told me where the store was so I could go back and check for them later but was very stern about having no time to stop on the way (remember the part about being 2 hours early?)
I could have easily overlooked all of the above had it not been for the constant bombardment of asking for tips. I can't even count the number of times she reminded us to give her money at the end of the tour, as if the slightly larger than necessary sign at the front of the bus wasn't enough. Give the people money for letting us stand in their doorways and watch them do their jobs on and on.. I'm very well aware of how it works in Mexico and most often I over-tip, I tip too often but I have never not given a tip.
When we got back to the hotel she reminded us again to give her money, only this time she was specific, money for her, directly to her, money for Pedro directly to Pedro. I don't why but that bugged me and sadly, I gave her a very small tip, I honestly didn't want to give her anything at all..
Your best bet for touring Mazatlan is find a friendly taxi driver and hire him to take you around, we saw so much doing it that way for 4 days.
End of rant. Mazatlan is beautiful, the people are genuine and friendly, the spirit of the city is not something you'll soon forget.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Day trip from Mazatlan to Durango and back.
EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTING. SAVE YOUR MONEY! LOST A WHOLE DAY OF VACATION!
Waaaay different frm what was sold. The 1st part of the drive to Durango was an overload of info and when a few women were chatting in the back of the van the guide Susanna got mad and said she would start again when they were ready to listen, almost 3 hours of her reading frm a notebook, one on a tour like this only needs highlights and points of interest.
We were to go to a park & see replicas of famous world icons such as the statue of liberty, the Eiffel tower, etc. We parked on a bridge in the middle of the freeking road to look down to see a few statues, I could not see as I was seated on the wrong side of the van. Paid to see this and missed it because we didnt even drive close to it.
2nd, we were to go on an open air gondola ride & see a gold/silver museum. We got to the top of one of the highest points in Durango and got to go to the bathroom & because of the wind, we were rushed back into the vehicle, no gondola ride (understandable given the wind) Why could we not look around and stretch our legs a bit? On the website... the gondola doesnt appear to open til May 2nd, hmmm, is this fraud?
3rd We went to the Basilica where the guide was not supposed to do any speaking in the church as people were in there praying. At the front of the church, Susanna called us all in to where she was standing & starting to lecture us about something I really couldn't understand. She rushed us out the door giving one person heck for not staying with the group and lecturing us about how we need to stick together & we are family. We were rushed through this too.
Between the church and walk of fame she stopped to talk to some soldiers who were recruiting, she read out all the benefits they recieve, spoke to them in spanish and gave a little lecture on joining the reserves. What was the point of this? 10 minutes of the tour gone to waste.
Next we went to the walk of fame in Durango which is pretty neat... but we were rushed... and because I wanted a picture of a statue I got yelled at to stay with the group. We didn't even get to see the whole block, half way up she rushed us back.
After, she walked us into a university... I don't know why, but were rushed back out.
Next was the walk to the museum where she would stop and chat about something random. We get to the Villa museum. She went to reception there and chatted in spanish and she came back and told us there was no guide available, seriously, did they not know we were coming? Then surprise, she was gonna be our museum guide, good grief she has a scratchy rough voice and a strong accent and is barely understandable. She only took us through the first floor, would have like to see the courtyard & the second floor. More fraud? So we paid for a museum guide in our tour package and never got one. Is money being pocketed here?
Lunch came next and was incredible.
After lunch we went to see some murals. When we got to the gate they asked permission to go in, Susanna told us that they didn't need to let us in and they could deny entry, ok, if this was part of the package why did the guards at the gate not know we were coming? Should something already be in writing?
Next we were to have time at the market. Well we may as well have all had a rope to hang onto... we had to stay together she was afraid we would get lost... claiming construction would get us lost. We had no time to shop & purchase a souvenier.
She had lots of info but was an aweful guide. Always asking for tips and always rushing. We gave the driver a tip but were so dissapointed we would not give her one. Worst tour and tour guide ever.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The tour brought us to an expensive jewelry shop that was way overpriced. Twice as much as a jewelry shop in US.
The souvenir place in central city market, the guide brought us to specific places. We decided to walk to other locations. MY ADVICE: BE ASSERTIVE and look for the stuff you want and not just go to were they take you.
Regarding tequila: shop around for the tequila at least research local tequila. Ee should have: Our mistake. We bought some tequila at the only place the guide took us.
