Our oceanfront room was very nice. Ample balcony. Sweeping views. Large room. Nice bathroom. Convenient room keys on your wristband. The food was good not great. But not bad. The sister property is a nice treat to visit. Much larger than this property and had an adults only pool. Very quiet and rather hard to find!! The beach is aTEN

Summary: Not worth it. Even with a huge discount, I would rather pay a little bit extra for a better resort. Most of the staff are amazing, but it feels like the owner bought a trashy dive hotel, and failed to emulate a 5 star experience. Pros: - The service staff was amazing! Super friendly and caring. - Half of the resort looks very pretty - The buffet was as good as a buffet can be - The bartenders were excellent mixologists - The beach was gorgeous Cons: - The wifi is basically no existent - The business centre is a place where travel agents can sell things, this is not a place for guests to work - The gym is very small, with old equipment and half of the machines do not work - The concierges will try and sell you a time share - Half of the resort is still under going renovations - The restaurants are booked several days in advance and do not be surprised if you get a call the day of your reservation informing you that they cancelled your reservation... - There is a dim blue light beside each bed that impedes your ability to sleep. It cannot be turned off...

Great location with a beautiful beach but we will stay at a different resort next time. Who’s ever heard of an all-inclusive that refuses to give you bottled water when you call the front desk? We’re not Club Viva members so the policy is no fridge replacements and we were told to go buy something from the resort store when the maid took away our water bottles. Staff are very hit and miss in terms of friendliness and helpfulness. We are fairly relaxed but our patience has been tested a few times. As mentioned in many other reviews the check-in process was ridiculously slow, after transfer from airport took 2.5 hours. No resort information in room and concierge primarily wants to sell time share. A la carte service is great, buffet is okay but often has empty trays. Bartenders are wonderful but lineups for drinks can be long. Lots of beach chairs available with catamaran, kayak, and paddle board included. Still here so we’ll see how the rest of the trip goes.

This hotel provides a wonderful experience for family, they were able to help us with a crib and accomodate near our room another reservation we have for some other family members near us. The buffet was exquisite and the food has always several options. Staff even give us milk since our baby still take his bottle at night, people were always so kind and helpful. The only thing I was disappoint about was the "mayan" restaurant which was not fulfilling my expectations of authentic food.. other than that.. I enjoy the shows, pool and beach were always great. Thanks we would like to come back soon.

Well, you absolutely don’t get what you pay for. At least we did not at $308/night. The resort is dated, the room had a terrible musty smell, bathroom was falling apart, dirty and had drainage problems. The entire place was depressing and had a horrible vibe. The buffet was ridiculous. People that say the buffet is okay have not seen what other resorts offer. If you pay about $20/night then it may worth it for budget travelers but any more than that and you will be extremely disappointed. Check-in process was awfully slow. Be prepared to sweat while you wait an hour to check-in. I wonder how such a place can have business.. we fell for good reviews and I am still not getting how people can enjoy this place.

We stayed at this resort for 2 weeks and it was one of the best all inclusive trips we've had. We were debating whether to stay at the Maya or Azteca, but happy that we paid a few extra $$ to stay at the Azteca. They both have their pros and cons, but because the Azteca guests  can use the facilities at the Maya, we were able to take advantage of both hotels. Maya - Great entertainment! Daily night shows were held by highly skilled circus performers and dancers - Trapez lessons were offered every day by the amazing circus team, Martina, Dani, Franklin, Emanuel, Mauricio, which we will never forget <3. It was an once-in-your-life experience that we enjoyed very much. Trust them and just listening to their instructions,  we were  flying in the air within just one lesson. - Dance lessons,  pool party,  archery (Anthony was a great instructor)... so much to do. - Buffet food was much better here than Azteca. Azteca - line-up to get drinks / food is much shorter since they were fewer guest. - Easy to reserve restaurants, and all 3 restaurants were really good. - quiet at night - free rentals, such as bikes, SUP, kayaks, catamaran. You need to reserve 30 min slot for water sports. - Free windsurfing lessons and sailing in catamaran (Jesus and Paulo at the aquatic sports were very nice and helpful) - very clean, most of the staff were friendly and helpful

We were a family of 4, two boys age 7 and 10. Viva Azteca was simply AMAZING in all categories. The hotel is immaculate, the staff attentive, the food fresh and varied and the beach beautiful. The pool is a good size for the kids, not sure it’s big enough for adults if you’re a pool kind of person, but me and my Husband are beach people and the beach did not disappoint. Our room was spacious and very clean, we were on the ground floor facing the pool (room 2111). If the standard of cleanliness for daily room upkeep is as good as the cleaner we had, Cecilia, you won’t be disappointed. The beds are very comfortable, with high quality mattresses. Some people on previous reviews have rated the pre booked restaurants over the buffet, but apart from the Mexican restaurant, we were actually more impressed with the freshness and variety of the buffet. There is an outside courtyard area outside the buffet which is beautiful. Again the staff are fantastic, but Daniel and Gerardo were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and you were waited on as if you were Royalty! All in all, this hotel is of a high spec in all areas. You won’t be disappointed. The staff are an asset to this hotel. I hope the Management acknowledge them accordingly.

Hotel was very clean and staff was very friendly. Great beach in front of the hotel. Having the kids club (free kids care) on site was the biggest win for our family. Our 8 and 10 year old boys loved going there and we loved getting some alone time. You can drop them off just about any time from 9 AM to 10 PM. The buffet meals were decent and the restaurants were good. It was hard to get reservations for restaurants, but on multiple occasions we were able to get a reservation by checking in the afternoon after others had cancelled. Some of the daily activities on the schedule did not happen for inexplicable reasons, so check with front desk to make sure it's actually happening if you are planning your day around one. The resort is within the larger Playacar area which has guarded/controlled entry. Very safe location with a 3.5 mile loop that is good for walking, running and biking (free bike rental from resort). There are even a few Mayan ruins you can explore for free. We would certainly stay here again.
