The professionalism, the experience, the family atmosphere, I just can't say enough about Chris & Jhair. If you are visiting the Rivera Maya for your next dive adventure, Wet Owls Dive Center needs to be on your list.

I've known Jhair since he became the course director when I was completing my divemaster at another one of Playa del Carmen's many dive centres (he did my snorkel test, in fact). As an experienced diver there can be problems finding a good divemaster. Unfortunately, it can be seen as an opportunity to skip over briefings and safety and generally reduce the level of professionalism (I had such an experience in Cozumel in Christmas 2017 (no air in multiple racked tanks) and cancelled my second dive as a result). You will find the exact opposite is the case with Jhair. Whatever your level of experience, he will treat you with the utmost professionalism and respect, whilst ensuring you have the best diving experience possible on the always unpredictable, but marvelous, Playa reefs. Despite having to cancel my planned diving due to adverse weather, after a change to my flight I was able to get in the water and behold the unexpected marvel of sponge spawning season at my favourite dive site (Tortugas). This should really be on any divers bucket list. The sensation of being underwater whilst it is snowing (from the females) and steaming (from the males) is mind boggling. The following two dives in the North (which is little visited by other centres) were also fantastic with the luxury of the boat to ourselves. Jhair went out of his way to ensure I had the best dives possible. He provided brand new renewal equipment in prime shape and filmed every dive with class, providing me with some fantastic footage after, which my family and friends really enjoyed. In terms of value for money, professionalism and personalised service, there is genuinely no one better to dive with in Playa. And this comes from someone with a lot of experience there!

I did my Padi Rescue course with Christine and Jhair from Wet Owls in Playa del Carmen. It was a challenging but rewarding course made a pleasure by the professional, organized and caring team at Wet Owls. If you are diving in Playa or even Cozumel, I highly recommend them.

Jay & Christine are super nice and run a great dive shop. We dove at two cenotes (The Pit & Dos Ojos) and were in great hands with their Dive Master, Matthew (cave diving specialist). Excellent equipment, knowledgeable team, courteous and helpful. Nice day & nice people. I recommend them highly.

These guys are great! They took our preferences into account, planned everything in detail, picked us up and gave us lovely sandwiches to eat between our dives. The Cenotes are otherworldly and beautiful, I think they could have been intimidating but our guide was an expert with lots of redundant equipment and we were absolutely certain we would be safe. We loved the Wet Owls, if we are ever in Mexico again they will definitely be our dive shop of choice.

THIS is the shop to dive with in Playa Del Carmen! Christine and Jhair were phenomenal at organizing all the things my boyfriend and I wanted out of our dive trip – between him completing EFR, Rescue, and Divemaster courses, me completing the Tec40 course, fun dives in Playa, Cozumel, and the cenotes, and a whale shark trip out of Cancun. Their instruction was very comprehensive, yet they find a way to make all the learning and practice fun and meaningful! Communication with them about costs, expectations, scheduling, etc. was fantastic and very clear before and throughout our stay. We visited shortly after beaches and things were opening up post-quarantine and they followed all the proper safety protocols regarding sanitization of equipment and materials, facial coverings, and reduced number of clients on the boat to maintain social distancing. They made this dive trip such a pleasure even though we had plenty of material to learn during our stay, we have such wonderful memories and look forward to returning!

I was staying on Cozumel but wanted to do my first cenote dive on the mainland. Jay was recommended. Jay and his wife Christine, the owners of Wet Owls, met us at their shop and took the time to outfit us with everything we needed. Beforehand, Christine made sure we had the lunch we needed for the trip (dietary restrictions). Matthew was our instructor - a highly trained cave diver (it shows when you dive with him). He took us to The Pit and Dos Ojos. Excellent experience! I highly recommend you dive with these guys if you want to be taken care of for a great price.
