Horse back riding or Paseo en Caballo in San Miguel de Allende. Xotolar is The best! Absolute and total best. Three generations have cared for the horses, other animals and the land. Named Xotolar (plural for wild sunflowers) for the wild sunflowers, this stunning ranch has been in the same family for 3 generations. You cannot get better service. We live in San Francisco,CA and our children have always lived in big cities with very little experience riding horses. The team at Xotolar has ya gridding rivers and galloping. We have been two times, once in June 2018 and also September 2020. Someone from the Ranch picks you up at your lodging and then they bring you to the ranch. You can milk the cows or just watch and help make the queso fresco. My 10 year old daughter was excited to eat the queso fresco again a few days ago after trying it in 2018. Tomas will teach you about growing up on the ranch and give you a tour of the kitchen where is mother cooked all of the family meals. Then on to the horses! These horses have walked the trail many times and know every footstep so we had confidence even going down the steep hills. The ranch had incredible views and even a canyon. Half way through there is a short stop at a tiny store in a little town. After another hour it is back to the ranch to enjoy an amazing lunch. When we were there in 2018 we enchiladas beans rice queso fresco and agua fresca de Jamaica. A few days ago we had the best choked rellenos of our lives, the queso fresco which is also the best we have had, beans, rice, sopes (corn with beans and cheese) tortillas and pico de gallo made with some of the prickly pear xoconostle. It is the best food we eat in San Miguel de Allende. I have some health issues this year and couldn't ride horses so one of the owners, Tomas, took me walking around the ranch for two hours. He cut prickly pear off the cactus for me to try. He also used his machete to dig up a wide variety of edible roots. He taught me so many things. It was a one of a kind experience. We LOVE Xotolar. A local gem full of history, wonderful experiences and people and delicious food.

Xotolar Ranch as authentic as it gets. Hands down the best experience I have had in the 2 months I have been traveling around Mexico. Not a commercial tourist place but a ranch that has been run for nearly 100 years by one family. It continues to support the same family and they are offer truly one of the most quality and rich experiences you could wish for. Tomas, who grew up on the ranch, picked me up, with his stellar english and class, along with his nephew, led me on a horse "Thunder". Thunder could not be more gentle and experienced. I fell in absolute love with the 1000 acre valleys and vista.. and in love with Thunder! After a magnificent 2 1/2 hour ride, we went back to the ranch for the best meal I have had in Mexico. It couldn't have been more delicious.. fresh cheese from the cows we milked, blue corn tortillas hand ground from corn they harvested, knock your socks off chile rellenos, prickly pear salsa.. perfectly prepared, with little added so you can taste the history and love in each bite. All the animals were so healthy and seemed happy and peaceful. So elated by this incredible day that I booked 2 additional excursions this week!

This was great! They picked us up at the exact time they said they would. We were a group of 12 and they made sure everyone had fun. We stopped to get some soda and that was amazing. We ran through the river and the kids enjoyed that. The food they made for us was DELICIOUS everybody loved it. What an amazing experience.

This has been such an unforgettable experience, I am speechless. Everyone was extremely kind to us, and the hospitality was unlike anything I experienced before. I had by far the best time I ever had horseback riding with the beautiful scenery! The home cooked meal at the end of the day was delicious, one of the best food I ever had. This is an absolute must do experience while in San Miguel!

Thomas and his family are terrific. Perfect experience from the hotel pickup, to horses, to enjoyable ride with beautiful scenery, to a great lunch prepared for us. Thomas even took our phone and took pics and videos of us riding. Would ? recommend Xotolar to everyone and would love to do it again very soon. I felt very safe here and with great company. A huge thank you to the family. Everyone was very kind and accommodating. A stunning horseback riding adventure and gorgeous views. Horses and equipment were well maintained. I enjoyed the home-cooked meal it and the singing. I felt welcomed and loved. The best part was the trial and nature's elements and being around great people. Also, I loved how we got to close our eyes and meditate while the horses moved us. Indeed unique experience words don’t even come close. Thank you very much. Horseback riding is a must-do event, and next time I would try their tent camping option. I wish I would have done it.

This is an experience of a lifetime! From start to finish everything was perfect! Leo went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time, and we did! The horseback riding experience was wonderful, with stunning views! The horses are incredibly well trained, if you wanted you could just close your eyes and relax and let the horses go through the trail. After the horseback riding, they made us a delicious home cooked meal, which we loved. The ranch is wonderful and so authentic, everyone we met there was extremely nice and very hospitable! This has been an AMAZING experience, highly highly recommended!
