Beautiful lagoon! Mix of fresh and salt water, great snorkeling.

One of the coolest life experiences I’ve ever had. We went with Cancun adventures and our guide James was great. We swam around to a few different and more secluded areas than what’s pictured, enough light to see the walls of the cave but photos didn’t show up. I highly recommend going!

My wife and I have visited Yal Ku 4 or 5 times now. We always try to take our newbee visitors here to go snorkeling. It is beautiful and park like. I mean, if you wanted to design a park that offered snorkeling, you would design it to look like this. The water is crystal clear. It is surrounded by green shrubberies and foliage. The shore line is rocky and interesting. There are tons of fish. Yal Ku is an estuary where underground fresh water flows into the warm sea water. Because of this a lot of fish make this place their home. An interesting thing that happens here, is the way that salt water and fresh water blend together. As you may or may not know, salt water and fresh water don't readily mix together. That means that swimming here you often swim between the two areas. It is almost as of there is a film or curtain between the two kinds of water. As you swim with a snorkeling mask, this film/curtain visually manifests itself as almost an oily sheen in the water. It is really interesting to see this. It doesn't feel oily, it looks almost oily. You'll have to see it to understand what I mean.

Would NOT recommend. We got ripped off asking if it was ok with babies with roads for strollers and shade. The guy clearly understood and said yes. Ultimately, it’s only 1 platform with no shade at all. Nothing. For $300. We left 45 mins later because other platforms are owned by private companies and hotels and we are not allowed to sit there. 45 mins for $300 and they refused to even reimburse half. They are cheaters.

Very clear, refreshing water. Snorkeling here was a great intro to the activity, but not much to see here underwater. The beauty is the cave itself.

Great place to snorkel with salt water fishes and other sea creatures! We loved it! Although it was rainy, it wasn't uncomfortable and it added to the experience in my opinion. It's a deep swim, so if you are not a strong swimmer, better take a life jacket instead of a life vest. Don't disturb the fishes please.

PLEASE READ: You do not have to pay to access the cenote. You can walk in for free from the west side (must drive by car on the freeway) or you can swim in from the sea. Just wanted to make that clear. This place charges a $300 pesos (or $14USD) fee to enter the lagoon from their property. We paid for it and it was worth the price for us. The amount of fish you see is INCREDIBLE! Big parrot fish munching on coral, electric blue fish, so many I don't have a name for. The best fish can be seen right where you get in the water, at the south tip. We did not need life vests, you float just fine in the ocean water. Kids and those who tire while swimming should consider them though. Bring a sun shirt to swim in and wear (no sunscreen is allowed in the cenote- ouch!). Wear very good sandals if you want to walk around at all, the ground is broken lava rock with really cool fossils everywhere you look. I recommend swimming out to the north side, there's a sandy beach you can hang out on, and way fewer people so you can get those beautiful shots of nature. You can also access that side of the cenote by taking the private property trail I mentioned above :)
