★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great spot, mind blowing that people built this thousands of years ago. I’d recommend using a guide! The infographics at each pyramid don’t really teach you much.
Go early!!! They only allow 400 people and they usually reach that before noon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Much bigger than I thought it would be. I walked up from Oaxaca, there is a nice trail which takes a couple of hours. Definitely worth a visit. There are good views over the surrounding areas.
Unfortunately the museum was closed.

Monte Alban is supposedly only sell 400 tickets per day. Tickets can only be purchased at the gate. It's first come first serve. On Saturday February 12th, we had no issues. In fact they were still selling tickets at 1pm. I asked they said they only had 15 tickets though. It was pretty cleared out so I do think it 400 for the day not in the site at one time.
A friend went in January and on a Saturday. No issues getting in around noon.
I recommend staying for 2 hours. We went slow and stayed for 3.5 hours. Monte Alban is a great mixture of historical archeological site and beautiful vistas and nature.
85 peso per person. They open at 9. You can't park your car before 9.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went there Jan 25, 2022. Opens at 10 am and has to wait on road for a while before 10. Queue for ticket 85 pesos per person. Has toilet near the entrance . Also museum which is currently closed and cafeteria,gift shop inside the building. Then go up to see all the tombs and structures. Wear hat , sunscreen , comfortable shoes . Has to I go up and down steps. Bring water..takes about 2-3 hours in total . There are guides as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Zapoteco era ruins ☺️⭐️This is the location the 20 pesos bill is pictured after. Bring comfy shoes and water and small snacks. You can buy a hat w the local vendor for as cheap. The entrance is cheap to an American. I loved how intact the ruins were. Bathrooms at the entrance museum. It closes early so be there by 12pm

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The site is great! You do not need to pay $60-100 to come here. Save your money. Get a taxi and get there for around $15 or less. The entrance is about $5. There are a ton of tour guides that are waiting outside itching to give tours. They charge around $30 for 2-3 hrs for a family of 5. That was too much for me, so I negotiated with him and gave him $20 for 1.5hrs. The total trip for a family of 5 was $60 total.
There is a gift shop and a museum (museum was closed when we went due to covid).
4stars only cause the sellers and tour guides are very persistent at the entrance and ruin the experience a bit. But once you're inside the location they aren't allowed to disturb you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A must see place to learn about humanity and the development of civilization. We are such a small blip on the scale of time and you can really feel that in this place.
We took the bus in from Oaxaca first thing in the morning. That's the way to go. Cheap, easy, and the buses don't have to wait in line to get in. We hired a private guide to show us around for 600 pesos and it was so worth it. Christina was great and provided so much insight that we would have missed without a guide. Such a powerful place! We hope to visit again once the museum is open.
Even though we all are tired of COVID, an upside was being here without the massive crowds they seem to usually have. Add to that, a great lunch at the cafeteria with great service!
