★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We booked this rental through carrental.com. We prepaid for accidental insurance, however when we arrived they mandated that we purchase their 3rd party insurance. So, not only were we paying for 2 insurance policies, they also required a $700 deposit. When we refused, they denied us transport back to our hotel. They would only transport us downtown, even further away from our hotel. Nothing but a scam and horrible company policies. DO NOT RENT from them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our car was in good condition and ready when we got there. The only complaint we have is that they charged us extra money to add my husband as a driver because I forgot my license. We had prepaid for me to be the driver and they would not transfer it into my husband's name. It cost us $87 to add him. We were not happy at all!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Avoid this Alamo location at all costs.
I originally booked through Expedia for a SUV that seats 7 people, 2 months ahead of our trip to Cozumel.
After about 3 weeks, I realized that the Expedia listing for a "Jeep Wrangler or similar" for 7 passengers was probably inaccurate considering Wranglers don't fit 7. I called Expedia & they said I needed to call Alamo directly, since they control that information displayed. I called Alamo & they were very helpful, cancelled my Expedia booking & set me up with a 7 passenger van for a comparable price. I received a new confirmation email & booking number through Alamo. The day before our trip I filled out the Accelerated Check-in online, and it said we were all set! (SOO excited!!) I had heard horror stories of rental cars on Cozumel, so I was glad to have booked with a reputable company.
Well that all changed when we arrived. Upon arrival at the location (which is a 5 minute walk WITH all our luggage from the airport), Luis immediately told us that there was no vehicles for us, so *shrug*. He told me that because I booked through Expedia it was my fault & my confirmations were invalid. When I showed him my Alamo confirmation, he told me it didn't matter because I didn't pre-pay. Then he told me that his location isn't an Alamo (even though he's wearing an Alamo shirt & the whole place is Alamo branded). He continually came up with excuses and lots of shoulder shrugging. No apologies, no offers for help. He's final excuse that he thought was the best one, was that its my fault that I didn't call him directly to confirm ahead of time. I asked him why he didn't call me - he shrugged & said it wasn't his job - it was mine. He tried to tell me he didn't have my number - even when i pointed to it on his screen. Luis refused to solve anything, apologize, take any blame, or do anything. Just stood there shrugging & telling me they have no car because I, as the customer didn't >. The confirmations meant nothing.
I asked for his managers phone number so I could speak to them directly, Luis informed me that his manager & Alamo know nothing about how this location runs so they cannot help. This was a complete disaster of an experience, that ruined our many plans for vacation for our group of 7.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ZERO STARS! DO NOT RENT HERE. First you have to walk 2 blocks on the street to pick up rental car. Then whole family stood outside as it rained because only the driver of rental car can go inside.
We purposefully purchased Mexico insurance on the phone with our reservation $20. The liars at the rental office in the location that we walked to to pick up our car said no - $60.
My husband called Alamo reservations on the phone while in the rental office. Alamo said my husband was correct that it was only $20 per day for the Mexico insurance, not $60. The office rep still said no.
We walked out and grabbed a taxi. Do NOT lease a car here, even if you try to do it ahead of time with all prices locked in.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a good experience. Please note, that the rental station is outside of the airport, about a 5 minutes walk at max.
It's very small and there is no express version. It's an Alamo franchisee. Luis was very friendly and helped us to figure out how the ferries work to get to the mainland.
We got a small SUV which worked great on the bad roads around Tulum, our main destination.
Returning was also hassle free and they even drove us back to the terminal which we appreciated very much.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very difficult time returning the car. Car had an issue with fuel gauge not showing full tank RIGHT AFTER WE FILLED IT UP - had to drive back to fuel station for 0.3 lit of fuel and a video to prove it was full. By the time we got to the station the gauge had shown one bar less than full tank.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hard upsell on the insurance which was supposed to be included in price. Expedia would not fix, and Alamo gave away my reversed car while I was on the phone trying to fix with Expedia but said I was a 'no show'! Love Cozumel, but never again trusting Alamo.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had a terrific experience with alamo. We rented a Jeep for 4 days (ended up extending a day with no problem or up charge) and drove it all around Cozumel. Limberth took care of us and we had wonderful service throughout. Clear communication, no hidden fees or up selling, terrific car, friendly service. Will rent from them again next time. Thank you Limberth and Alamo team!
Side note, they took in a dog that had birthed two newborn pups, one pictured here. Such great people!
