Our first experience at Alaya was the morning yoga class. It takes place in a beautiful open air studio with a view out to the ocean. Both instructors we had were excellent. We then spent a few days at the beach club (their minimum spend is $35 USD FYI). We really liked the smaller layout and staff compared to some of the other nearby clubs. Both Raul and Reyes were awesome. Their vegan al pastor tacos were really good and the salsa picante is a must have if you like spicy! The coco nana was also a go to cocktail, the perfect match for the setting.

This is a lovely rustic peaceful place to stay. Raul went out of his way to make sure my daughter and I were happy, comfortable and want for nothing. A lovely natural beach vibe. If your looking for a commercial place with a pool and excessive amenities this it’s not the place for you. You can stay in the states for that. Thank you Alaya!

The hotel looks very nice on pictures, nevertheless our stay there was average. We had a room on the top floor, which means you are underneath the roof. The roof is made out of straw, which means there are small holes in it, which led to insects falling on our bed, very unpleasant. One morning we discovered a scorpion in our room, housekeeping removed it, they said on the one hand they had never had it before, but on the other hand they were like "this was just the jungle, you have to live with that". The hotel team offers coffee every morning, which is brought directly to the room. But this was not brought to us every day, but only on 3 out of 6 days. We found out from other guests that there is also a jungle gym and yoga classes, but we weren't informed about this when we checked in. The hotel is overpriced for what is on offer. Despite paying so much, breakfast is not included and the air conditioning only works at night, not 24 hours. The beach has beautiful, white sand, but there is a problem throughout Tulum that a lot of dead algae are washed ashore, which means you can't swim in the sea.

We were very excited when we booked Alaya months in advance. We arrived at the hotel with a group of friends. First of all, in this hotel you have to negotiate about everything in order to get a service or amenities. You negotiate on a beach towel, you negotiate on a coffee which is given in the morning free of charge, you negotiate on AC during as it's limited while you pay almost a luxury hotel rate in Eu or US. If you do not insist on the thing you want, you do not get it. (for instance: when my friend asked to use the AC during the day, he somehow got it, however we were told that we were unable to use it between 10:00 - 18:00) The funny part of our stay was on our second day we woke up with a Scorpion (please see on the pics) right next to the bed. We called the House Keeping and they came to take that as it was a very normal animal. When I asked for a room change as I didn't feel fine if that was the only scorpion in the room, I was refused. I seriously couldn't sleep and did not feel fine in that room. There was definitely a hole somewhere as we never left the door open. The reaction of the reception as well as the other employees was weird. They were not even sorry, they did not offer us anything else nor extended apologies. At the beach one server came 5 times to me and asked if I was okay and told me that I look stressed. It was very uncomfortable. I thought he did not believe that I was a hotel guest but although I showed him my key, he was still behaving very weird. In this hotel the issue is there is nobody responsible or the responsible people are not introducing themselves to the guests and taking responsibility of the incidents. If you really want to stay there, definitely do not take the top floor. There are numerous animals falling down on you while sleeping from their ceiling. Ask them to give you a proper info about the hotel and events (we were on our 3rd day told that they have daily free drinks, we were not informed that there were yoga sessions in the hotel we were told that there was a private fitness event on our last day) It was such a bad experience we had in Alaya. I genuinely not recommend.

I recently stayed here for two nights during my first trip to Tulum. I stayed in the city on the final night (@Layla Tulum) I can't say enough about the Alaya Tulum resort! It is absolutely beautiful. My room was directly on the beach and was absolutely beautiful. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Tanet had amazing recommendations for dinner and also arranged transportation to other places. I also had an amazing massage by Juliet. I would definitely come back here and have told tons of people about it. I miss it already ❀️ The resort is centrally located and close to tons of restaurants and shops. I traveled solo and felt completely comfortable walking during the day and at night to restaurants, compared to when I stayed in the city. In the city I felt comfortable walking alone in the day but didn't at night. In the city it's like walking through a neighborhood you don't know and there were tons of stray dogs. Everyone was friendly but as a solo female traveler, I felt more comfortable coming and going from this resort.

We did not stay here but did visit the beach club for a day. It was awesome! The sun beds were comfortable and the staff was super eager and helpful. The food and drink were great and the beach was cleaned of seaweed. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service was pretty slow and they forgot to bring drinks twice, so just be aware of that in case you have somewhere to be - but it was all worth it when they finally did get stuff to us. Would love to go back and stay in the hotel sometime!

Upon arriving at Alaya we were given refreshing smoothies while we checked into our villa. We were helped with all our bags and shown around our quant and beautiful room. We lucked out with our garden suite room because the ocean breeze cooled off the room during the day when we had the doors wide open. Every morning we woke up to coffee on our porch. The service from arrival to check out was top tier. Freddy, Luis, and Ricardo were especially helpful during our 4 day 4 night stay. My boyfriend and I took advantage of the 2 for 1 happy hour special every day and the margaritas and food were great. The resort was romantic and relaxing. It was across the street from a cute walk up bar that had a poke truck, a taco stand, fajita cart, and brick oven pizza place that we went to every day. The resort is tucked away and just south enough it is away from the beach clubs and loud restaurants so it is peaceful and quiet at night. I highly recommend staying at Alaya resort. My boyfriend and I had the time of our lives thanks to Alaya and the employees who were wonderful.

Such a gem! I’ve stayed in Tulum town twice and this was my first time staying on the beach and it was fantastic. Pros: - Excellent food! We had lunch and breakfast here everyday and the food was some of the best we’ve had in Mexico and was reasonably priced. Highly recommend the smoothies and tacos! - Overall aesthetic is very cute and rustic, but kept clean with comfy beds - Morning free coffee (or tea or juice) delivered to the room was awesome - despite it being on Tulum beach it was very quiet as it’s on the south end - Walkable to many restaurants nearby but I’d recommend just eating at the hotel Cons: - Staff could be more diligent about wearing masks during the pandemic, and masking wasn’t enforced at all for guests in common areas - AC is off between 10-6 - this wasn’t a big deal as the fans are great, but could be a drawback for some
