★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolute gem in the area. A must visit. Short menu but delicious meals. homey vibe. The setting feels private and nothing like you would expect from the outside.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Food was amazing overall. The cowboy pork was a bit dry, but that's really the only food complaint.
They really bungled the checks at the 3bd if the meal though. They aren't really set up to properly handle large groups.
I will certainly return when I'm going as a couple or small group. It's definitely a hidden gem.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I’ll keep this short and sweet! Took my mum to Anafre, Cocina a la Leña & Vino - Now my favorite place to eat in Playa. You absolutely must try their signature tostada for starter (I believe it was Marlin with an avocado base and some caviar)! My mum, whose favorite thing to eat in Mexico before our visit to Anafre was a 2x1 Nutrisa on a Thursday, told me after one bite; “this is the best thing I’ve tasted since I’ve moved to Mexico”. Significant words from a connoisseur, to be sure. We also had the bruschetta to share, also very tasty, (ask for an extra side of their bread basket). We both had the steak for the main course; I can’t remember which one as we were already a bottle of wine in at this point. I think it was the Rib-eye. what I can tell you is that it tasted awesome. Based on my experience however, I would ask them to cook your steak one level below what you are used to, but that could have been a one off. Their olive oil ice cream desert was also super unique and didn’t fill you up too much after the huge steak. We had the churros too ? personally I would ask for more of the raspberry coulis that they drizzle on top (at least that’s what it looked and tasted like after two bottles of wine!) As well as an extra side of ice cream. Our new favorite spot - now they just need to let us “locals” in with a special knock at the door (reservation only) so that we can just sit at the bar for a drink because the vibe is awesome. Love seeing these 5-star spots “this side of the Carretera”. Maybe this review wasn’t too short, but it was sweet! Thanks Anafre!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent experience! Highly recommended for a dinner outside of the Playa center to get away from all music and craziness of 5th avenue. Excellent attentive service & food was delicious. Great wine. 5 Star!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Anafre is an outstanding restaurant- perhaps the best in all of Playa Del Carmen. It was packed with locals and families visiting from Mexico City. Anafre was recommended to us by a Playa Del Carmen local. Our server was attentive, and our dishes were delicious (especially the pulpo). The wide selection of wines and specialty cocktails with Mezcal was also fabulous. As a California-native (SF Bay Area and Los Angeles), my standards for what I regard as good Mexican food are very high, and Anafre did not disappoint. Our family even returned for a 2nd meal because it was so good. The open air kitchen concept provides for a one of a kind dining experience, which is great for entertaining young kids. The unassuming entrance (a large gate on a concrete wall in a residential neighborhood) gives you the impression you’ve stumbled across a hidden gem.
