About Archie's Wok

INTRODUCING OURSELVES

asian-food-puerto-vallarta

There’s more to our history than just great flavors. It began back in 1978 when Archie was asked to become Hollywood director John Huston's private chef at his personal retreat on Banderas Bay’s south shore. Only reachable by boat, Las Caletas (The Coves) was John Huston’s jungle villa by the sea. There Archie prepared a table for the full spectrum of humanity entertained by Huston: the occasional indigena bringing him an ocelot or coatamundi from the jungle…Mexican entertainers…his eclectic family...Hollywood friends and film collaborators…Mexican filmmakers…French winemakers…English nobility.

Today, Archie’s Wok remains a very personal operation, a labor of love now under the guidance of hisasian-food-puerto-vallarta wife Cyndi, daughter Kiyoki, and son Sergio. Kiyoki radiates hospitality as she welcomes you into our cozy/elegant dining room. Sergio heads up the kitchen operation, daily garnering the freshest of local seafood, meats and vegetables to be transformed in the Woks and on the grill into delectable Asian-inspired dishes. His pantry includes an array of home-grown tropical herbs & spices…kaffir lime, galangal, lemon grass, ginger, chilies, tamarind, coconut milk…native to both Asia and the Mexican coast.

asian-food-puerto-vallartaA tradition of family-style dining is reminiscent of the days when Huston and his entourage shared the pleasures of the table, with each guest enjoying the full range of flavors offered up to create a bountiful spread. Or a more romantic tete-a-tete in the intimate candle-lit tea garden may be your style, as classical/contemporary musician d’Rachael entertains you on harp, flute and vocals. Celebrate with a Margarita Sichuan, Silk Moon Martini or Mt. Fuji or Manila Cooler and settle in for an enchanting dining experience. We welcome you to our table!

“Having feasted around the globe, I can appreciate this wizardry.
You bring the Orient, indeed the world, to my table in the middle of the Mexican Jungle.
Marvelous flavours—I applaud you Archie!”

Written by John Huston to Archie at Playa Caletas, 1981

Best Asian food I have ever had. I’ve eaten all over the world and this place blew my mind & taste buds. The food was so fresh, flavourful and cooked to perfection. The restaurant itself also has great energy and good service.

Amazing experience. I had the Cambodian Curry and it was amazing. Flavor was on point and you could taste the fresh coconut. Great bar selection too if you fancy a Mai Thai. Chopsticks on request. Get your Asian food craving satisfied here!

Portions are large and can be shared. Nice environment, airy and open. Menu has meat and vegetarian options. Spicy sauces actually have a kick, which is nice. I'm used to restaurants saying something is spicy when it's not.

I can’t say anything bad about it. Very cute place, good service, ingredients seem quality. Kind of a hybrid Mexican Thai Chinese cuisine but tasty and nice to have something different. Again restaurant is a nice size with lovely outdoor seating area to boot. Food is four stars (again quality ingredients but some of the cooking techniques need adjustment for Asian style). Five stars for the ambiance and restaurant.

3 stars for food 4 stars for staff, attention to table service (can be too much sometimes) and ambiance Lovely menu to choose from, good variety of dishes. However the vegetables in a dish can be undercooked which frustrates me. The amount of meat/chicken is little for the size of the dishes. Drink menu is good, wide choice for mixers and honest prices. Sitting in the backyard is always a pleasure!

Love this place! I keep coming back here and the quality is so consistent. Highly recommend her curry dishes and the coconut shrimp soup, but everything here is really good. Very fresh ingredients and high-quality. Highly recommend!

Great food, great service and fantastic location. Steps from the Pier this place is great. Cash only. We started with the Calamari Frito and Seasame Cucumber which were delicious. The Singapore Fish was wonderful, with a sweet and sour flavor. We finished with the Triple Chocolate Fudge Brownie, with a gooey center it was a delightful end to a sublime evening.

Asian gazpacho was so flavorful! It tasted of sweet tomatoes and fresh herbs. We also had cucumber salad and drunken noodles at the recommendation of another review. We ordered a lavender dream and a lime pie dessert. Both were unique and delicious. I have passed this restaurant for several years and thought, who goes to PV for Thai food? It is excellent. I will return.
