Beware Americans of Avis at the Cancun Airport. If you book a car thru a package like Expedia or others and even tho you pay insurance, when you get there even after you show them your print out of insurance they tell you you don't have insurance and there is a $2500 deposit on your credit card that will be returned when you return the car. this is a scam. what they do is make up anything to say the car has damage. rocks hit underneath etc. so they can get the $2500. BEWARE of all AVIS or for that matter any rental car place near the Cancun Airport that you bought with a package. You've been warned! Best bet just pay a taxi. it'll be more but less headache and less money in the end.

Horrible experience. Absolute scammers and wheel out the old car rental favourites to trick you out of your money. Be careful. There is a Hertz next door, use it.

I made an expedia booking at this location. When I reached there they said my pickup is 50 miles away per their system and asked me to pay a higher price if I want the car from them. Its sad to see American businesses being involved in the tourism mafia in Mexico. Total fraudsters. And I wasn't the only one who had this experience. Neither expedia nor Avis was responsive to my grievences.

The service took long even though we had made the reservation over the phone a few days prior. The car was in good shape and clean. They did charge extra to return the car to the airport location, not a big deal but would have appreciated the notice when I booked.

Very poor service, high price and made lie to customer. When I went to office to pick up my car they took me to a different and far away office and told me if I return car here they will take me back to hotel. On the day I return car they complete ignore my request and keep saying that is mistake from some other employee and not represent company. Then they said they will take me but I need wait. So I wait in the very small office with other 10 customers and a lot of mosquito for one hour with no one take care. Finally I left and took bus and will never come to avis again

My plan was to rent a car for a day to travel from Cancun to Chichen Itza because we wanted to get to the site early before all the tourist bus shows up and also have the convenience of managing our own time. We did the rental through the Avis Website and rented the car from 8pm to 8pm (one day). At first after seeing all the bad reviews on google review, I was a bit hesitant but just to be safe I decided to purchase the damage insurance (LDW) and Liability insurance (ALI). The LDW insurance will cover any damage(even theft) to the car (dents/dings) and it was very good idea to get this because I can basically drive without worry about anything that might happen to the car. ALI liability insurance is necessary by law. When I got to Avis at the La isla mall, I was greeted by Alan and he was very courteous and friendly. The transaction process was very smooth and I only had to put down a $40 deposit on my Visa card (which was refunded) Alan answered all my questions and he also upgraded my intermediate car rental to a full size (probably because of my Avis membership) When we inspected the car, the gasoline was only about 3/4 of the way full and I made a note of that to them so I would also return the car at about the same gas level. My experience has been great with Avis and also Alan and the crew, I wanted to make sure that whoever decided to rent from Avis to take my advice as far as the insurance goes and be respectful to the people/culture of Mexico and enjoy the wonderful things that Mexico has to offer. 10/10 will rent from Avis again!!

Booked a car online on the 4th jan 2022, when about to pick up, was asked for a deposit of 3.500€ (which was totally unacceptable). Cancelled the reservation and the front desk officer said that I would be refunded on the next days... After almost 3 months,... still waiting for the refund. Worst service ever!!! Fraudsters!!! UPDATE: After contact with the store you said "there is no refund regarding your prepaid". You, AVIS Cancun, were responsible for the cancellation, not me. Booked and paid the car online. At pick up you tried to charge me 3.500€ in advance on my credit card, which is totally unacceptable, and the front desk refused my credit car. Wasn't allowed to pick the car and the guy at the front office suggest to cancel the reservation in order to refund me. So, a refund is due , since it was your fault for this situation. Will rise a full and global complain to all AVIS office around the globe, with all proof and evidence collected on that day. Being a fraud isn't AVIS standard worldwide.
