Amicable Rent-A-Car with good prices, most convenient way to get here is via Taxi. Good cars and a complimentary water bottle at arrival!

Worst customer service ever! Booked a car for 11–00 today. The hotel did not let us in and the woman at Avis first said she did not got out reservation, later she managed to found it but anyway refuse to rent us a car saying they do not have a car despite it was booked.... total mess

We rented a car here for a day and the next morning. We drove the car to Tulum and back and then to Xplor that night and returned it in the morning. The paperwork took a loooong time, even though I reserved the car weeks in advance (~15 minutes of walking in the door to get to the car inspection phase of the checkout process). And the language barrier wasnt the issue, just not the most organized operation. I understand that there is something to be patient for another culture, but this was just plain unprofessional disorganization. They even pulled out the wrong type of car for the first inspection attempt (manual transmission versus the automatic I reserved, as I refuse to drive manual transmission on vacation or in an area that I can't read all the road signs in). But once we got the car checked out, it was a breeze. The only other issue was they did not have overnight checkin for the car. Which means, I had to return the car the next morning during office hours, and then catch a taxi back to the hotel to save time walking as we had another excursion to Cozumel that morning we had to fit in.

After doing (too) much research and reading many horror stories we were apprehensive about renting a car in Mexico. At this location, though, everything went smoothly: the staff was friendly and helpful, the car was clean, and there were no surprises during the rental process. We paid for all possible insurance, which normally I never do, but seems to be the internet-consensus advice when renting in Mexico. We walked from just off of Parque 28 de Julio, which was a bit of a trek, but only because of the heat.

Probably the worst experince we had in Mexico. We had car reserved for 8 a.m. and since we lived in hotel next door we asked our receptionist to call and arrange a meeting at security gate. Nobody was in the office. We was able to get in touch around 10. So we moved it to the next day. Salvador showed up with car which I did not consider equal to what we ordered (we ordered Jeep Renegade and got low spec Ford Ecosport - which wasn't even on the page of Avis.mx to order). And what was worse was, that Salvador tried to make us pay 500 pesos more than it was on the reservation and another 500 pesos more in cash (he said that he need that cash for some kind of local tax). That was very strange and his english skill didn't help either. So we forced him to lower the rental price and paid that 500 pesos "tax" by card with rental and made him write that on contract (which I still have as proof). It all looked like, that this employee named Salvador was trying to rob us. So everyone beware! I am even considering writing a letter to main office in Mexico and in USA. I have never seen something like that and I hope that I will never see it again. It completely ruined our impression from Mexico. We rent a car by Avis at Hotel Secrets Maroma for 3 days. We ordered the day before online on avis.mx, at our arrival the car was already there. You must know that sometimes you have to wait because your car is in another office downtown or somewhere else, so you have to wait for somebody to get it where you are. So in this case, our car was here, clean and ready to go. Their fleet are modern and clean, nothing to say about that. ( I rent a Chevy Malibu) Special thanks to Mauricio García who was very welcoming and professional, he did everything to get us the best car for the best price. The rental price itself doesn't cost much... but the insurance in mexico are pain in the a#s... but for safety I recommended it. .
