Barceló Maya Tropical - 77750 Playa del Carmen

We had such a lovely stay here and it is my second time visiting. The staff are lovely and were very accommodating and sensitive to my partner’s celiac disease. The buffet was safe for him with exception being given to the obvious breads and some desserts. We got a letter printed out at guest services that explained his allergy which we took with us to each food outlet. We felt so relaxed in the cabanas by the pool. My only piece of feedback would be that almost every cocktail I had was way too strong. It was a 1:1 ratio of alcohol and mixer most of the time which became too much for me. Mojitos we’re consistently delicious! Another thing to note is that the night club is closed because of the pandemic. Thank you, Barceló staff for a welcoming stay!

Very disappointing from start to finish of out trip, we stayed at resort twice before and it was very good, this time was one of the worst ever. We got Premium room with King bed at Tropical we got double beds at Colonial, not only we got moved but had to sleep separate beds with my wife. All amenities that come with Premium level we got none. We spoke with Managers and none of them did nothing about it. This time we reserved 6 rooms and will never again. Our Family and Friends all got separated due to overbooking which has nothing to do with us. Premium Level is a joke so is the Manager staff. Please look at different resorts don't waste you money and time.

German Lopez is the best the bartender I’ve ever had the opportunity to be served by. He made my friends and I so many amazing and creative drinks. He was also extremely friendly and great to talk to. We are excited to come back and be served by him

The Tequila Bar was one of our favorite places at the resort. German and the staff at this bar created a wonderful environment - friendly, excellent service, and of course the best drinks on the resort! Strikers also made really great drinks and quiet in the afternoon. The service was great! The mini golf was also one of our favorite experiences to our surprise! Olivia at guest services was awesome! She was very helpful in answering all questions and her English was excellent. Moises at the seafood restaurant went out of his way to make sure that my husband got a meal he enjoyed since he doesn’t like seafood. Carlos at the steak restaurant was great. Noe at the tropical buffet provided great service. All around we received amazing service from everywhere! The pools at the resort our amazing. We were in the Tropical and had a very nice room. I walked a lot around the Maya Palace because it was quiet. The initial part of our troop, we encountered a lot of party people who were very loud and disrespectful through the halls, restaurants, and swim up bars and they never left a tip for the hardworking staff. Aquila at the tropical pool was great along with the rest of the staff who were working extremely hard. The resort is big enough where we discovered some quieter areas and figured out where to eat and drink to avoid this type of crowd. If you are looking for a more quieter, family friendly experience I personally would recommend the Maya Palace.

Absolutely exquisite! The pools were magical! The staff takes hospitality to a new dimension of graciousness, sincerity, and kindness. The food was beyond extraordinary! Each dish was its own virtuoso masterpiece. Why I could have lived on their endless array of delectable donuts forever! The ambience was exceptional. A much fun-filled atmosphere! The wedding ? we attended there was absolutely charming, elegant, and stylish. It couldn't have been better in any way. Our stay there will be a much cherished memory for the ages!

German Lopez By far the best bartender. Super friendly and pours amazing drinks! Be sure to ask him if he has a special mixture made . We had two different types that he created and they were the best drinks we had all week. The resort is so big and so many people that it can be hard to get good service at times… being at German’s bar is where we felt like we were on vacation! ? ☀️ ?

Loved the resort, the location, the facilities, everything was top notch. Easily best resort I have been at so far in Mexico. However, perhaps it’s so good, some staff made us feel less welcome than others… usually the people is what makes the stay pleasant… and usually I have great experience, but this time there was something missing… at times I felt like we burden the bar help, or room service and they are super annoyed by that… maybe that was just my feeling, but never had this experience before… Still great resort though, and planning to visit again. They’ve got 6 hotels, and depending on which one you’re staying In, you get access to at least 4 of them. Would love to check out their adult only one next time.

I have to be honest and say that I was hesitant based on some negative reviews that I had read, but I really was pleasantly surprised. Maya Tropical was amazing! The food was fine - not incredible but great variety and decent. We reserved 2 restaurants for dinners right when we got there and otherwise ate at the buffet. The beach was beyond beautiful - I walked 30-45 minutes end to end every morning (time varied based upon how many times I stopped to take pictures of the breath taking sunrises). We reserved our chairs every morning with our towels and sat in mixed sun and shade of the trees. There were places to walk into the water (which was gorgeous) where there was no coral - you just had to look for good places to enter. After you were about 3-5 feet in, there was only beautiful sand. It stayed shallow really far out but when we were there last week, it was windy and there were waves. I actually enjoyed both - the wind kept us comfortable and the waves were fun. All of the staff was lovely, the room was clean, and the pools and fountains and buildings were all very pretty. I don't know why people have negative reviews. Even covid testing was easy! $18-23. My husband said the fitness center was decent and he's pretty picky...we also enjoyed the fact that we could walk between 6 resorts easily and enjoy the varying beauty of them all - after dinner it was really pretty to walk along the walkway along the beach and see so many stars overhead.
