Bernie and his partner Victor were super accommodating, friendly, and excellent teachers. Bernie picked us up from our airbnb since we didn’t have a car and gave us history and fun facts of the island. They provided rash guards, water, and booties. Bernie took great pictures and videos of us while we were surfing.

Bernie's was a safe, fun, and educational surf experience! This was my 2nd surf lesson ever and Bernie and his assistant Christian were excellent teachers - Bernie brought a good teaching mat to practice getting up, a balance board to feel out surfing, and boards of multiple sizes to try the waves on - even teaching us in a shack right by the water which added a great ambiance as he taught us. He picked us up on time, and he knew the best spot to surf on that day. It was raining on the west side of the island which made us think the surfing wouldn't be good but Bernie, having grown up on the island and having taught himself to surf here, knew better. The east side had PERFECT beginner waves: consistent, manageable, and warm. Bernie promised I would stand up on my first try and I did! Must have caught 20 waves that day with Bernie - for my 2nd time! To cap it all off, Bernie gave us delicious fresh-cut pineapple at the end of the day! I would recommend Bernie to anyone. He was professional, a great teacher, safe the whole way, and we had a perfect surf experience. Thanks to Christian too who diligently worked to put away the boards, took videos of us to show our friends, and did all the heavy lifting so we could just walk to the beach and get in the water. I would give them 7/5 stars if I could!

This was all around a fantastic experience. Bernie was easy to get ahold of via Whatsapp and we coordinated our surfing outing easily. The day of the lessons we got excellent training and some practice on a balance board. This was my second time surfing (last time was in Cali) and this was by far the better experience. The waves were perfect for beginners and Bernie made sure we got lots of opportunities to ride the waves. Pricing was very reasonable and the equipment was high quality. Honestly would love to come back and spend a whole trip out on the waves.

We've been 2 times on Cozumel and both times we've tried surfing with Bernie and his crew, and it was absolutely amazing. Bernie is awesome guy and really good teacher; perfect communication and service. We had a lot of fun with him and really enjoyed it. If you want to try surfing he is the best!!! ... thank you Bernie for a such good time ??

We visited Cozumel while on the first cruise out of Galveston after the pandemic. I have always wanted to learn how to surf and even did a surf lesson years ago in California. I am so glad I found Bernie’s Board House as it was one of, if not, the best cruise excursion I’ve ever been on. Bernie taught me how to surf for cheap and the lesson I took in California, for twice the price, had nothing on the lesson I received from this small family run business. They drove us to the beach. They provided the equipment. They even provided drinking water and snacks. Bernie was thorough in his teachings and is the nicest and most genuine guy you’ll ever meet. We drove out to the east side of the island for the lesson. The area was very pretty and not inhabited. We basically had our own private beach. When we got to a good spot with beginner waves, we parked the car and began the lesson on the side of the road on a yoga mat. We practiced standing up, balancing, and other beginner techniques. Then, we took to the water. I fell on the first couple waves and then I got up on the third. Had a hard time keeping my chest up, but I started to get the hang of it pretty quickly and even rode a wave all the way in close to the shore. After about an hour, we came in and sat in the shade while hydrating and eating the fruit that my Bernie had brought. After he and his son packed up the car, we drove back to civilization and took them out to eat at a restaurant they recommended called Marisqueria El Pescozon. It was VERY GOOD and we also got to know our instructor and his son pretty well. The conversations we had were meaningful and eye opening. Learning about Bernie’s family and Cozumel’s culture/history over a great meal after a killer surf lesson was truly the best way to experience the island. Bernie’s son even got some great footage and pictures of the lesson that he shared with us at no additional charge. Whether you are living in Cozumel or just visiting the island for a day, I cannot recommend Bernie’s Board House enough.

I took a 8-session class with Bernie, and now I’m already able to catch 50% of the stable waves on my own. Bernie is an excellent coach: the pop-up and balance training on land is extremely helpful to ensure you successfully catch the waves in the water. All his crew members are super nice people and I enjoy my time with them a lot. I also meet a lot of people coming for a one-session class during my 8 sessions, and all I can tell you is that from what I saw, they’re all super happy and content when they finish the day. I had a wonderful time in Cozumel surfing with Bernie. Really appreciate this experience!

Hands down the best place to learn surfing or do a surf trip in the entire Yucatan peninsula. I’ve taken surf lessons in Thailand, Bali, California, and Sayulita at a range of price points, and Bernie’s was the best, most comprehensive lesson I’ve ever taken. The talented Bernie and Christian picked us up, drove us out to the east side of the island and brought us out to excellent gentle rolling waves! He taught us how to pop up, stay balanced (his use of the balance board on a cylindrical roller was genius!), and spot waves. Bernie even brought out water shoes for us as there were some rocks near the shore. The equipment we used was in excellent shape. Christian took excellent footage of us in the water. Afterwards they prepared yummy pineapple slices for us! If you find yourself on Cozumel, don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn to surf from the best. The quality of instruction and amount of care for your overall experience can only be explained by the fact that Bernie and Christian do everything with heart. That certainly doesn’t come easily!
