Birrieria Ponce - 63728 Sayulita

The little outlet on the main road has legendary birria tacos. Absolutely worth a trip. The birria stews in the clay pot all day, good meat and balanced spices. And the smell is what attracted me in the first place. Must try in Sayulita.

We were searching for something else and this place caught our eye. Under a tarpaulin was a wood fired ceramic cauldron and a gas fired flattop for tortillas We realized it was birria. We ordered a large order each not really sure what to expect. “Par agui? “ Sure? I guess. The tables were occupied but I couldn’t see how we were going to eat the soupy stew standing up and weren’t sure exactly what we ordered. Staff are typically friendly folk.. hey, we’re in Mexico…but no English and we’ve minimal Spanish. The server put a couple new chairs up to one table and served us two delicious looking plates of lamb braised in a entrancing(?) glorious sauce topped with chopped onion and cilantro. It’s the most delicious meal we’ve eaten in Sayulita yet ( I’m on week 2). And kind friendly people!! You have to go early as it was closed later (2?) when we went back to get more for some who had missed out. We ate around 9 am. Tired of huevos rancheros? This is the answer!
