In one corner you have a white stucco church. This is used for many wedding and church services. On Sundays you will see a line of people out of the church. It is a pretty iconic building in Playa with the azul ocean in the background and white church in the foreground. Nice palms and tropical plants surround this small church.

Times on website are wrong. Maybe Mass maybe not at 10am. Noon and 5 in Spanish.

Beautiful little catholic church with regular masses on Sundays right in the center of Playa del Carmen. - Did you know that “Playa” got its name from this particular chapel? Years ago, when people went to church on Sundays and got to this 'Chapel of our Lady Carmen', they wanted a place to meet friends and family afterwards. It was the nearby beach which they then called “Playa del Carmen” - literally the 'beach by the chapel'...

This is a must-go place if you visit Playa del Carmen wether you're catholic or not. English is spoken, the schedule is posted at the entrance. This place is at the historic heart of its young city. Please, show respect of you enter and, if possible, buy a souvenir from the people at the entrance of the temple. The priest personally sells rosaries and other items. If you feel uneasy to buy "items of cult" you can deposit some cash inside the basket at the entrance. The temple administration really needs help to keep the temple as the pandemic hit hard on tourism. You can enjoy the view, the art and decorations inside. This place was a sanctuary of peace when I felt troubled while living in Playa del Carmen. I recently asked the priest to mention my deceased parents and other relatives during the ceremony. I also asked some not-very-popular politicians to be mentioned: Luis Donaldo Colosio and Dr. Carlos Salinas de Gortari. The priest looked at me oddly when he wrote the names. A part of me wanted to troll my relatives by knowing their names were together with those two. Another part of me wanted to honor the effort of PRI-based politicians (not sponsored) as the municipality where Playa del Carmen belongs was declared under their administration. Whatever you do, this temple is worth the visit. Enjoy the view and if possible, contribute with a donation.

A beautiful Holy Mass in English at 10AM Sunday morning. We were grateful and honored to attend and worship Our Lord in this beautiful church.
