I traveled to SMA to enjoy a fine dining experience that I'd missed out on at a restaurant called Ariel's in Brookfield, Vermont. The most awesome chef, Lee, along with her family, created a sumptuously delicious, creative, unforgettable dinner for me and some of her friends one special evening in this beautiful hilltop location in San Miquel de Allende, MX. Lee and Richard have recently opened this new b&b in their first year of retirement. I think my friend and I were their first guests but you could tell they had years of experience taking care of people in search of the best. Seasoned visitors, they had so much information to impart about this town (which, by the way, Travel & Leisure touts as the best city in the world). I highly recommend Casa Papaya for travelers looking for a wonderful, relaxing vacation high up in the mountains of Mexico. Oh, how I miss waking up to a fabulous, fresh, diverse breakfast every morning! BEWARE...you must like the sound of church bells ringing at odd hours of the day.

We flew in from Playa del Carmen for Christmas dinner. We are originally from Vermont as are the owners, Lee and Richard, and wanted to experience a little bit of home. The hospitality was great and the food was exceptional. We met a number of people from Canada and the USA and left with new friends in addition to a full belly! If you are visiting San Miguel de Allende, you need to add Casa Papaya to your itinerary.

Casa Papaya was a delightful "home away from " hosted by the genial and extraordinary Lee and Richard. The food, of course, was delicious and the companionship warm and welcoming. Their close ties to the community and knowledge of local history provided us with rare insights into both expat and native communities. Great breakfast conversations! We came away feeling as if we had spent a delightful week with friends. Looking forward to our next visit!
