I went on a Sunday morning. All the fondas (food kitchens) in Benito Juarez market were full to the brim. I was able to find a spot at Chabelitas, I lucked out. I ordered the combination breakfast plate (2 types of enchiladas, cesina, chorizo with glass of fresh orange juice. I highly recommend!!! The best plate of food I purchased in Oaxaca during my 5 day stay. I went to two other fondas; they weren't as good as Chabelita. I also ate at a few well known, more upscale, restaurants. Chabelita was better. Service was fast. I asked the waitress where they bought the molé, she told me everything was made by the head cook/owner.

Very good food and attentive service. May be hard to get seated if you have a large group when they're busy. Overall, very rich.... Would recommend.

Wandered around looking for some vegetarian/vegan options. This was the first place that didn't look at us funny and only offer a salad. Quite the contrary, they prepared beautiful tlayudas and mushroom enchiladas en mole negro. We have been twice and will certainly go again.

This was the 3rd place I tried tlayudas here in Oaxaca, and hands down, THE BEST! My husband got salsa de huevo and said it was incredible as well. We came back the very next day and both ordered tlayudas ?

I had the enchiladas con tasajo. AMAZING. I also got a chocolate con agua and the atole blanco and mixed the two together. So yummy.

This is probably my favorite place for food within the mercado. My favorite dish is their huevos a la oaxaqueño. Service is lighting fast, the food is tasty, and their red sauce was exceptional. I highly recommend this comedor!

The tlayudas here are giant!!! Here’s my husband by it for scale haha. My husband also enjoyed his horchata! I love the grilled beef and grilled pork on top of the tlayuda. My hubby misread the menu and ordered the pollo frito bc he thought it was a fried chicken quesadilla, but it was just a pan fried chicken breast/thigh with beans and salad (didn’t get a photo of it though). I ordered a caldo de pollo and it came with a giant chicken in it as well! Everything was really tasty and delicious. We got everything for like $14 with tip! Also if you’re looking for this restaurant inside the Mercado, if you enter from the south entrance, go right as far as you can and traverse up the aisle. You’ll see it soon, it’s the one with a ton of people at it!

Great local spot! Tamale was great - watch out for bones, but chicken was tender and the mole delicious. Tlayuda was a win, too. Huge but nice and light. Horchata for the win!
