Condominio Marina del Rey - 48335 Puerto Vallarta

The Marina Del Rey is over 30 years old. It has a beautiful pool which is not heated and a shallow area for children. There is a waterfall among the well groomed area which is very picturesque. The view from our patio on the top floor shows the roof rotting away. In fact there are pieces of wood from it laying on the patio. Some of the tiles on the patio have also become loose or broken off completely. I am sure it was a fantastic Mexican condo in it's day but it is now in desperate need of repairs. The noise from the neighbouring restaurants lasts until 2:00 a.m. and is very, very loud even with the windows closed. There is also unpleasant doors coming from the restaurants below. The workers keep the pool area immaculate.

The good and the bad and the ugly. Scenic and good location. Built in 1989 and at times showing its 30 years. Lots of wood went into its construction and some of this wood is rotting near the roof line. Built before mandatory smoke alarms so I was not pleased when I closed my eyes to sleep at night. Whoever built the pool and its area did all the right things as 30 years later it still looks good. Outside maintenance is excellent as I counted as many as 6 workers tending to this. There are two major problems that can be encountered by owners and renters. Kitchen exhaust being vented from restaurants on the main floor to the 5 floors above. "Supposedly" this has been rectified but this is Mexico the land of "Sobornos" and La Mordida. So many rules and regulations are not enforced. So you may get to smell the pizza without eating it. The 2nd is loud music till the wee hours of the morning coming from Cerveceria Chapultepec Restaurant which sits across the street from Marina Del Rey. 2 days before leaving I found Chuy on the front desk was handling a petition to try to deal with this. Speaking to other residents would indicate this is an ongoing problem either from this location or other restaurants in the area. Do yourself a favour and not rent penthouse 1507 Marina del Rey, 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. Way over priced for something built 30 years ago with no upgrades and very little maintenance. Large cockroaches can be found in the upstairs bedrooms and ants have taken over the kitchen cupboards and pantry. It got so bad as who got to eat first, them or me. 4 AC's and 2 of them leaked water as did the washing machine. Water leaked below one bathroom sink which could have contributed to a musty smell in the rental unit. WiFi did not cover the whole unit with none in the back bedroom. Security was a laugh, 30 year old lock with key hole in the Center, that was it. No secondary lock to be found such as a dead bolt or chain on the inside of the door. The worst security I have ever experienced. Rental is for up to 8 people but only 1 key supplied. How do you please 8 people with one key? We were embarrassed to have invited family to stay with us and did leave after only 3 weeks of a 4 week rental which in itself should tell you of our dissapointment. Update Your host Gustavo from Zapopan Mexico lists both on AirB&B and Home Away with two different prices which he could double book accepting the highest and cancelling the lowest meaning someone would be left out in the cold with no place to stay. Update Along with this COVID virus, we found such a small thing as cleanness when taking over the premises the sink in the downstairs bathroom had hair from someone shaving in the sink which was dried to its sides. Not the best for these times. Speaks volumes as to whether you want to stay here.

As air bnbs go, this one is okay. Location is good. the Marina is full of restaurants. It's a noisy neighborhood. Our apartment had raggedy towels, no soaps in the bathroom and not enough toilet paper. Inexpensive lodging for those on a budget. Nice pool, and walking distance to the beach and the airport.

A great place to stay with many shops, restaurants, nightly entertainment, and a great Thursday Eve market. Not to be missed.
