★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The airport was a cluster f, only because American airlines decided it would be a good idea to have 4 different flights go out in the same hour or so. Some people missed their flight , not because of the airport but because of the airline. I have travel out of cozumel airport before and had no problem. My 3 star rating is because of American airlines!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stay alert or stay away from this airport. We flew in on January 27th for one week vacation. My first suitcase came right away, but my second came half an hour later, with snapped lock and stolen two pairs of brand name sunglasses and my wife's jewelry. As soon as I complaint - they walked us past x-ray straight to the street out of secure area. Flight from Toronto, AC1778, January 27th 2022.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When you get off the plane, there are people that are asking you about ground transportation. You tell them who is picking you up, and they look at their phone and say the transport just left. It will be at the airport in 20 minutes. That is a total lie. They just don’t want you to say that you have to go catch your ride. They tell you about everything you do on the island and tell you the max you should pay. They will then make you an offer for everything, which sounds good (but doesn’t turn out to be any special kind of deal). You start to sign up and realize there is a 90-minute presentation for their membership to their resort cub. The resort was nice and I would consider staying there. The guy trying to sell the is was very friendly, but I could not just spend that much money on something on the spur of the moment. They didn’t pressure us and it’s not a time share. Just wanted to give you a heads up and a warning. You have to be rude and say no thank you, no matter how hard they push.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small airport so pretty easy to navigate. For incoming flights the customs line goes pretty fast and well organized. However, once you get your luggage, it's a mad dash to the x-ray and button push for "random" searches. Once you're out of the airport, everybody around will want to give you a ride.
For outgoing flights, there is a duty free, a bar and some restaurants. It gets crowded fast. Security takes up seats (they will ask you to move on you're sitting there) for random searches. The people who are chosen get to board the plane before first class.
You will need to be able to walk up and down stairs because there is no jet bridge.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Exceptional staff service.King Suite was very nice. Only the bathroom is looking dated otherwise great water pressure. PADI Scuba on-site. Pepe's Scuba. Best dive service, treated like royalty. Fresh fruits and cold water provided after every dive. Focused on safety and preserving the reef

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This small airport isn't very flashy, but they are very organized to get lines moving. Coming in, immigration is easy, just follow instructions and have your paperwork ready. Sales people will get you a shuttle to your hotel, but be cautious of all their offers. Leaving, check in was smooth and security was quick. All of the gates are in one big room. The bar isn't too bad.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When you land and go through security, get outside as quick as you can. They direct you to official looking booths where they try to get you to pay for excursions or car rentals. They don’t tell you that it’s for a timeshare. They will tell you they give you breakfast, and a quick tour of a hotel. It is really high pressure sales that will waste an entire day!!
As for the airport: it’s simple. Customs is easy albeit slow. Outbound there is one restaurant that makes decent food, a duty free store, and two souvenir shops whose prices are average. They have simple cute art spread out as well. There seating in the gate area is very limited. If you need a rental car, it’s a short walk across the street.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Overall, we are pretty pleased with Cozumel in terms of a safe destination and have been coming here for years. So, here are some travel savvy tips specific to the airport. For starters as of June 4, 2022 they are still requiring masks both coming and going at the airport - although when you arrive they will not hold you up if fine you, even though there are signs saying they will, in any way coming into the country. They value tourism as their greatest priority and it is reflected in everything that they do - which is good for you. Once you arrive, if you have not pre-booked private transportation, you can get a shuttle to your hotel by passing the colorful shirt people by taking a right when you walk out of customs and proceeding to the last counter on the left before you exit the building. It runs about $20 U.S. per person one way. When you return to the airport you will likely want to arrive 2 1/2 to 3 hours early to give yourself time to get through the ticketing and security process. Also, they have eliminated COVID tests on the mainland before flying but they are still, as of 6/4/22, so be prepared to have one done for $35 per person the day before you leave, at your resort. Other than that the snacks are pretty expensive at the convenience stores so don't be surprised that a $3 bag of chips is $10 and if you use American money they will round up to the next dollar. Overall a predictable and pleasant experience for a tropical island. Another tip is to remember to pack any liquids over 3 ounces in your checked bag or it will be confiscated. Safe travels!
