Pay across the street before entering the dock! You'll avoid standing in line TWICE!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Docking one star for no employees that explain the system. Docking a second for not having signs up to explain the system. Docking another star for having a system that puts people out in the sun for more than four hours. Docking another star for not being able to buy a ticket in advance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We rented a car during our visit to Playa Del Carmen and decided we would spend a few days in Cozumel. We took the auto ferry without any issues. We arrived about 2 hours early each way to ensure we got a spot and there wasn't any issues at all with capacity. The ride to Cozumel was an older boat and the one on the way home was much newer and cleaner. If you're going to visit, I would highly recommend taking a car to Cozumel or renting one there just because it is such a wonderful drive around the island.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Arrive early to ensure a spot. Ferries run every hour on the hour. Plan to be there at least 45 min beforehand as queue to board can be long - especially in the morning for the 7am and 8am ferries.
