DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! I have had two instances where they were terribly in the wrong about how they treated me. This is my last experience: Rented from them off Expedia. Rented for Fri at 1230. But their location on Expedia said they were at the airport. So I went there to find out they only have their location in Centro. When I called them, they said sorry... but to come pick up your car. So I showed up 30 minutes later and they said they have no cars available. They said the next one might be in later that night around 7-8 pm. I was planning on leaving at 2 pm to go out of town. When I requested a refund, they refused. Then they said they might have a manual available. I was going to let my friend drive by they said they needed at $2500 cash deposit in order to rent a car. I had already paid for insurance on expedia, my insurance covers me for international rental cars, and they said they needed another $20 p/day in insurance from them. So all of a sudden my $250 car rental went to $500 and they wanted to "Hold" $2500. I refused and just said since you don't have a car ready, I'll take a refund. To which they refused. I tried to dispute with Expedia and they said the Economy refused to refund them the money as well. So I was never able to rent a car from them and they kept my $250. I've reported this to the BBB in the US in hopes of getting them to clear the charge. But no response. First time I rented from them they said them I rented a car at 7 PM at night. I was supposed to return the car on Sunday when they close at 6 PM. I asked the lady helping me to clarify what time I should return my car on Sunday and what time they close. She assured me 7 PM. When I came to return the car at 630 PM, they were closed. I returned the car early the next afternoon and they charge me for another day. The girl I rented from was there and she confirmed with her manager that she told me 7 PM. He refused to not charge me for the second day even though his employee told him she made a mistake. So they charged me for a second day. This place scams people out of money. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!!

Do yourself a favor and use another service, The manager took photos of the minor damages prior to giving us the vehicle...Then claimed damages for the SAME exact damages upon return, it's a clever scam because you're most likely traveling and don't think to question it.

My grad school buddies and I wanted to rent a cheap car for 24hrs to take from Oaxaca to Hierve el Agua and Monte Alban. Even though we're a bunch of gringoes, the staff was very helpful and communicative with us. We ended up renting a manual transmission Seat Ibiza, which with insurance cost $50 for a day. That was a steal, especially considering there were five of us. The car wasn't spotless (it had a cracked windshield and had some crumbs and bits between the seats and console) but it drove well and was very efficient. I'd definitely recommend this place as two other places which we tried to rent from that same day were quite rude. Very nice staff and a nice business to deal with if you're just looking for a cheap car to tool around with for a day or two.

We had to wait 30 minutes for the guy who works there to arrive when we had already notified them that we would be coming to pick up the car at 8:00am. To top it off, the car wasn’t even clean when we got there so then we had to wait another 30 minutes for the guy who works there to clean it. He even asked if we wanted to take it dirty so we didn’t have to wait, who wants to rent a dirty car full of trash?? Ended up leaving for our day trip an hour late because of all this and we had even already reserved the car the day before! The car also had dents and scratches everywhere and the gas tank was barely half way full. We did get to return the car the following day an hour later than we were supposed to at no extra charge and the car worked fine. These are the only two reasons this place is getting more than 1 star.

1 star is too much to give to this place. We had serious issues with our car and didn’t receive any good customer service whatsoever. Go with another car rental company.

I think some of the negative reviews here are based on people expecting that renting a car in Mexico will be the same as renting in Canada or the USA. Before renting, I dropped into 4 different agencies to inquire about prices, insurance, etc. I decided to go with Economy as their prices were most competitive. I spoke with Flor who explained in detail my options regarding booking directly with Economy or a third party, and basic to full insurance with Economy or my credit card insurance. I booked with Expedia and used my credit card insurance (decline CDW). In addition to the price from Expedia, there is a mandatory additional insurance of USD18 per day plus tax (US$20.88) payable when you pick up the car. Bring pesos for that to avoid credit card fees. Plus, I had to leave a US$2500 hold on my credit card which is standard practice with car rental agencies everywhere. The car I received was ready on time. It was very clean, gas tank full, and in good working condition. After the usual examination for any pre-existing dents and scratches, I was on my way. I had the car for 10 days and returned it with gas tank full. Upon return, Economy checked over the car's condition for any new dents or scratches, then seeing the car was returned in the same condition that I received it (except for needing a wash), the hold on my credit card was promptly canceled. I would definitely rent from Economy again.

We enjoyed our experience only that the car (Volkswagen Jetta) we were given had marks all over the car. Our car worked fine the first day until we realized that the horn didn't work which is key to driving in Mexico. It got worse when we tried turning the car on after parking it for a few minutes; there was an issue with a battery that continued to persist. We called Economy and they let us change the car. Our second car worked great, although it did have squeaky breaks. The point of all this is that the cars given to customers aren't always kept in the best condition and you may have issues. I won't use them again because I do expect a functional vehicle. The only reason I give Economy 3 stars was their honesty with the price and we are given a new car when our original one was giving us issues.

They gave us a car with two faulty tires. The popped in an area we had no reception at night. We had to be paying for tire repair and a mechanic and a place to sleep when we couldn’t get our tires fixed late at night. All out of pocket. When we returned the car they gave us an issue because we didn’t text right away even though we had said we had no reception. They tried to charge us for not returning the original tires and refused to reimburse us for the repairs on the faulty tires and rusted in rims. Our proof was time stamped photographs and a recorded voice note and video from a certified mechanic and receipt for the repairs. They refused to take responsibility for providing a faulty car. Stay away.
