Elaborado en marmol por encargo de Porfirio Díaz, para conmemorar la "Batalla de Fortín", la cual sucedió el 19 de abril de 1862 en este municipio, entre elementos del ejército mexicano de la república al mando del coronel Félix Díaz Mori y tropas francesas al servicio del Segundo Imperio Francés durante la Segunda Intervención Francesa en México.
Además, marca el inicio de la defensa de la soberanía nacional, culminando en la batalla del 5 de mayo del mismo año, en los fuertes de Loreto y Guadalupe, en la ciudad de Puebla
This is one of the most important historical monuments located in Fortín. Made in marble by order of Porfirio Díaz, to commemorate the "Battle of Fortín", which happened on April 19, 1862 in this municipality, among elements of the Mexican army of the republic under Colonel Félix Díaz Mori and French troops at service of the Second French Empire during the Second French Intervention in Mexico.
In addition, it marks the beginning of the defense of national sovereignty, culminating in the battle of May 5 of the same year, in the forts of Loreto and Guadalupe, in the city of Puebla.
