EMI CAR RENTAL - 97000 Mérida

AVOID. They give you broken car and then you have to pay for it even though you have the insurance and it was not your fault. In our case the door handles in the interior were broken. Do not recommend.

I rented a subcompact car from Jose, for 3 days. Although there were times when things felt shady - LOL - it ended up perfectly fine. Good car, no problems, decent price, pick up and drop off from hotel, easy to reach Jose with any questions I had during rental.

Picked up car from Jose, after shopping around and being jerked by several rental companies, and turned out to be a great experience. Rented car for 5 days plus drop off in another city, experience was great, very responsive and timely. Price was significantly less than competitors. Highly recommend EMI, Jose and his wife were terrific.

NOT reliable. They are cheap in every meaning. 1st experience: the car was the dirtiest ever, and I am not sensitive. But during Covid time, I would appreciate a car that looks clean, at least. 2nd experience: I called to check if they would have a car the following day. "Sí, seguro". They didn't tell me I had to pick it before 11am. All the cars were gone when I arrived at 11:30am. They didn't keep the car for me with no booking, which I understand. But then, they should provide the detailed info on when to show up. I had booked the hotel, so I was trapped to find a last-minute option that cost me twice as much. 3rd experience: I called to check if any car would be available for the next day. "No, pero, el lunes, sí". Then, I showed up at the shop on Monday at 9am. And there was no car available. Fortunately, this time I didn't book a hotel first. But going downtown back and forth took me 3h busing around. So, if you go with them: Don't book any accommodation in advance Be prepared to NOT have a car Be prepared to clean the car yourself There will not be a 4th experience for me. I do NOT recommend.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. I was driving to Chichen Itza but half way there had to turn around because the car was having engine problems. When I tried to return in during their working hours and tried calling, they were unavailable. The next day I brought the car in and they would not reimburse me for the time lost. They replaced it with an even worse vehicle and said that's all they could do. Hubert, who works there, knew how bad and unethical the owner is (if he is even a real person) and said this sort of thing happens all the time, but the owner doesn't get in trouble because no one ever pursues legal action. I basically lost my entire weekend trying to get a car that would work but in the end, just didn't take the replacement because it was too scary to drive long distance as well. Even though I returned it a day early, and they knew how much they put me out, they would not give me money for the extra day they gained. All in all, they stole about half the amount I paid. IF YOU DO RENT, PAY WITH CREDIT CARD so you can contest with your credit card when the agreed upon services are not provided and you are stranded. They will blame you for whatever they can to get out of it. Such a scam

You can rent from these guys, and their service is excellent! You have to speak Spanish, and maybe this helps build a bit of trust, but otherwise everything is fine. We rented a car at short notice, for two days and leaving it in Valladolid. Price was reasonable, cheaper than other providers, EMI were very friendly and accommodating, and car was in good condition. Would recommend!

The rental was super easy. The guy spoke perfect english and was super friendly. We booked the smallest category and paid just 600 pesos for one day, which is a fair price. The return was fast and with no problems. I just gave 4 stars, because the springs of the car made really bad sounds. I wouldn't want to drive like a week with that car, but for one or two days it is perfectly fine!

ATT: DO NOT RENT FROM THEM! Fist everything looks fine and friendly. But when it comes to agreements, in this case early returns, they rip you off! They would not refund for an early return even though it was discussed upon signing the contract. Announcement was made to return early two days in advanced (instead of one day as agreed upon). In addition to this, the car was worn out, had loose, unsecured cables hanging in the trunk and was still full of sand from the inside. Please don’t rent from them, take a company with good reviews and maybe pay a little more but be safe and sure to be taken care of as a customer. Respect the ratings - it does reflect reality.
