About Hotel Rosita

Our history

Puerto Vallarta used to be called Puerto las Peñas, it was of course a very small town with a few people living there. The walking area next to the Beach is what we now know as the boardwalk. It was the place where the local people had large warehouses to store corn, seeds, and coconut oil. The products were marketed and shipped on large ships for export. The regional market of that time was held between Puerto Vallarta, San Sebastián, Talpa and Mascota.

In 1948 the Hotel Rosita was built in the center of the city, becoming the first hotel in Puerto Vallarta. In 1962 when the movie “The Night of the Iguana” was directed by John Huston, Hotel Rosita received on several occasions the visit of Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Ava Gardner and the entire staff of the film who enjoyed pleasant meals from our restaurant. .

The Hotel Rosita is located where the boardwalk begins, a few steps from a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants and local entertainment, but especially next to the beach to relax. A ten minute walk and you will be in the main church, the town hall, the main square or the market.

Today the Hotel Rosita is the most traditional hotel in the city and is considered a gem for its typical architecture.

We stayed 5 nights at Hotel Rosita and found the staff professional, helpful, and every guest required to wear a color wristband. Yes, they carefully check the wristbands and make sure who allowed in for our safety. That's business, not an insult to me, and appreciate the importance to control access. Thank you!

Price is tough to beat, and it's really close to everything you need or want. But the stay was tough. Not the best beds or linens, and they didn't clean the room before we checked in. If you like a nice hotel, stay elsewhere. If you just need somewhere to pass out, this is the place.

To say this is an unpretentious hotel is an understatement. The place is dated and badly in need of an upgrade. Rooms are small and spartan. They are clean enough but any and all details leave a lot to be desired. From the paint job to the wiring hanging from the 22 inch tv, to the tiny bathroom sink, and the balcony that couldn't accommodate a 10 year old. Location and price are the only things that the hotel has going for it, right next to the entrance to the malecon, but is that enough? I'm not sure. I will not be coming back.

Positive: The staff are wonderful, kind helpful . Locators excellent although it¿s busy and rather noisy. Negative: Extremely minimal. We had a big at grade patio, but with very limited seating , no umbrella, etc. Our room was noisy. We seemed to be beside a mechanical room or laundry perhaps.

The location is really the only reason to stay here. 5 out of 5 stars for sure. Otherwise this is a very old hotel (est. 1948) with likely original furniture. The rooms are very small. The bathroom tiny. Amazing view from the tiny balcony. Service excellent. This hotel sits at the very beginning of the Malecon. Again, super excellent location, however you will hear all the party noise every night coming from the Malecon. Buyer beware. But again you can't bear the location!

FYI - We made a reservation (3 nights) for the following year -2023 - and understood there were no charges until check-in next January. Over a month after reservation was made online, we were charged for one night. I called and apparently it is their policy to charge one night in advance. We were not informed of this and almost canceled card thinking it was a fraudulent charge. I called and spoke to a very nice man who told me it was a legit charge. It would have been nice to know in advance that this would happen. NOTE: I only marked three stars in order to make comment. We have never stayed there but are looking forward to it.

The staff where amazing, as my parent's were able to leave with them an important paper to travel. The hole time I stay there, the staff were friendly and the place was keep clean. My brother and I we had quick access to go in to exploring downtown Puerto Vallarta and area as is so close to everything. I would recommend this hotel for anyone that is wanting to have a nice view to the beach and rest as well as relax by the pool, to anyone that is only looking at a hotel to sleep at while wanting to wonder out an about. :)

Excellent staff/service. Comfortable, clean rooms, beds, bathrooms, everything. Gorgeous views. Nice pools. Restaurant serves amazing food for quite reasonable prices by US standards. It's a charming, high quality hotel without the pretentious trappings. Highly recommend.
