Great place, perfect service. The Sikil P'aak was made at the table, and it was the absolute star of the dinner. Incredible and authentic taste. Great octopus and Cochinita Pibil, but the dish that came in second place after the Sikil P'aak for us was the humble Chaya soup. Delicate, yet very tasty. We had Chaya and Sacaab drinks to the food, and they were both really refreshing and good. For dessert we had the cornbread. Interesting and well-balanced together with the coconut ice cream.

We were staying in the Akumal area, but did a day trip in Cozumel and saw there was somewhere to get authentic Mayan food. Having never visited Mexico, I didn't know what to expect! We had the whole place to ourselves, and ordered cochinita pibil tacos, mayan black salbute, and pipian pork. The handmade tortillas and the flavours of everything were amazing. I loved that it was stated that every dish is prepared with ancestral recipes and local ingredients to preserve the culture through flavours. Whatever they're doing, they're doing it right. For dessert we decided to share the Mexican cornbread (after seeing a clip of it playing on the TV). It was topped with shredded cheese and condensed milk and served with a coconut ice cream - a perfect end to our meal. Something of note: I ordered an Ix Kool háa (sacaab with coconut cream) thinking it would be something like horchata, but it's much less sweet and more earthy. At least I can say I drank the 'drink of the gods'! If we ever visit the Riviera Maya again, we'll definitely make a special trip to Cozumel just for Ix Kool. Thank you so much to the staff for being so patient and kind in explaining everything on the menu to us.

I'm known to leave honest reviews. They ask you leave a good review while you're there which is okay, but I'm updating mine. It was a great local experience and food was amazing. Israel made our guacamole and it was very tasty! About 10 walk from the port. It is super expensive though and that's why I'm giving it 2 stars. For 3 bottles of water, 3 non alcoholic drinks, guacamole, 3 cheese empanadas, 2 small honey jars ($7 each) I paid $80 with tip. I didn't even get meals!!! Nothing with meat!! It's sad how some people take advantage of tourists. Would I come back? For the food and service definitely but for the price I pay for it? I'm not very sure...

Amazing experience! Fresh food! Affordable! Takes credit cards. Close to ports. Not super fast but it was freshly made. In and out in an hour so not slow either. The place was dead which is crazy bc it deserves 10 stars and all the love. We got the octopus tacos, some bean stuffed tostadas (not really what they’re called but if I had to explain…)and cornbread, plus a couple drinks and shots and everything was amazing. Staff was super helpful, clean, interesting and honestly it’d be silly to miss this place! Thank you guys!

I really had a great experience there. I have been living in mexico for about 5 years now and I have quite a lot experience and knowledge about mexican food. The main reason is I am a big fan of mexican food. So I can definitely assure that this is definitely very good quality mexican food. I don’t know about mayan cuisine much but yes if they tastes like this , then definitely I am a big fan. And one little thing I want to add for the patients who are suffering like me from acid reflux. Well this restaurant didn’t triggered my reflux. So I can assure about the food quality.

The food was ok but rather underwhelming. It was fairly pricey for what was essentially tacos and bland bean soup. I like the ideal of learning about traditional Mayan food but this place seamed more like a tourist trap than a great restaurant concept. I think the server was new. He didn't know a lot about the food and also didn't know what gluten free meant. There are so many amazing restaurants on Cozumel that I would skip this one unless they make some changes.

Beautiful restaurant and delicious food in an island of tourist traps. I've spent 10 + years vacationing in state of Yucatan and this regional Mayan cuisine is authentic as it gets. Our group of 5 ordered mainly appetizers so we could try a variety of dishes. Flavors spot on and fresh local ingredients. Yes, it's a bit pricier than other venues, but you get what you pay for.

We decided to try Ix Kool after reading some of the Google reviews and I am so glad we did. The food was wonderful. I've never had Mayan cuisine before, and now I can't believe what I've been missing. The menu says Mayan Cuisine Experience and it is as advertised. The staff explains the history of the dishes and even prepares some of them table side. If you are in Cozumel, even for an afternoon, you must give Ix Kool a try.
