La Maria Bistro at Las Palomas - 83555 Puerto Peñasco

We made a reservation at this place during our stay at the hotel. For starters, the place was understaffed, however I let it slide because of the recent pandemic and problems with unemployment. The food is very pretentious and isn't very Mexican at all. My grandmother ordered the new York tacos which were 4 tacos, smaller than Tijuana style tacos, and she could've eaten each one of the tacos individually with one bite. The tortillas were also pink which I suppose was the restaurant attempting to stand out however it was really just pretentious. Small portions were a common pattern with all the food. One of the appetizers was literally just 3 tiny medallions each of cactus and cheese. All the items are overpriced ,small in quantity, and weren't even anything above an 8. Also, considering this is a bistro, you would atleast expect they get something so simple as coffee right, however, the coffee that me and my family were served was lukewarm. Apart from that, the design of the restaurant I quite liked with it being very minimalistic,modern,organized,and clean. The Panacotta was also a very nice treat. Not worth coming though.

We have never had anything but a good meal here. Very reasonably priced. The service is astounding.

Misleading...I asked ahead of time what their special entailed it sounded great. 4 beers and a plate of food during live music. Came to find 4 beers were only 'tastings', 2 oz pours. I asked if my girlfriend could get vegetarian plate, but no, that costs extra. If I had known ahead of time I probably would have passed. Maybe a communication issue, not sure, I spoke with both the host and the bar manager. I don't fault the server, service was ok otherwise.

We enjoyed our breakfast in this restaurant. The Server was attentive and pleasant. We had combos, with fresh fruit and juices. Portions were ok, but I eat small. The pancakes were quite small. Prices were reflective of the resort... mid to high for Puerto Peñasco.

It is always a pleasure to eat at La Maria. The shrimp tacos are my favorite. Yet, I’ve eaten many dishes and I am yet to be disappointed. The cream corn chowder dish is delicious.

The staff is friendly to speak to but un-attentive. I sat at the bar and there didn’t seemed to be an assigned bartender. Also be careful about the drinks. I ordered a Bloody Mary the was on the menu for $5 but then got charged $10. The waiter asked me what vodka I would like but neglected to mention that there’s $5 up charge for anything other than house vodka. Finally the food took too long to be served, at the bar mind you, and the portions were small and lacked flavor. It’s ashamed that as friendly and nice the environment is, the food and service fails.

What a pleasant find! My husband and I came here for dinner and really enjoyed the service, the food and drinks. The ambience is average but you get the waiter talking and now you’re discovering a tequila reposado since 1942! The mole is a perfect combo of savory and sweet. The food is gourmet and with the right company, the meal is transformed from sustenance to experience. We really enjoyed this place more than any of the other restaurants we tried here in Puerto Penesco. Check it out and decide for yourself.
