About La Orca de Sayulita - Whale Watching Sayulita
Esteban is an enthusiastic and charismatic Colombian biologist who has been working with whales in the scientific and tourist areas for six years. His first steps as a guide and researcher were made in Peru where he met Nico and then he started his own tourism and research platform in the isolated coasts of the Colombian Pacific, where he has worked in recent years. His biggest interests are the songs of the humpback whales and their cultural evolution.
Esteban currently leads and accompanies several projects of international alliances to study the cultural evolution of humpback whale songs, with the hope of discovering how whales learn their songs and what are the links of migration between the population of the Southeast Pacific and its populations surrounding. He has authored several publications in peer review journals and is working at the international level in acoustic research of humpback whales.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In March, my boyfriend and I spent two weeks in Sayulita. We went out with Nico for a morning of whale watching and it was amazing! Her knowledge and the fact that we got "up close and personal" with whales in their natual habitat was awe inspiring! I would love to do it again, earlier in the season. As a side note, we watched them "play" out in the bay a few days too. Quite impressive to watch!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had the best time on our whale watching trip!! We saw a bunch of humpback wales and listening to their songs were amazing!! Even more interesting was how much info our guide gave on the animals and how amazing they are. Do NOT leave Saylita without doing this! Seriously. Also, take a Dramamine about an hour before your trip, took a bit to kick in cause I didn’t take mine till we were in the boat... rookie mistake.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My fiancé and I had a great time! Our biologist guide Esteban was very professional, personable and informative. You can tell he really loves and respects his job and the whales. El capitán Angel was great too! Very fun guys and good vibes & good company all around. We saw several whales (dolphins and turtles too!). Loved it. 100% would recommend if you want a more holistic and simple way to enjoy nature and observe whales.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a magical tour! We saw countless breeches, so many cool displays of truly amazing behavior. We got to meet a local kiddo (they said they take them out on the tours whenever they have room.) The tri-lingual guide was wonderful. Highly recommended!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful experience. Esteban (guide/researcher) and Aaron (captain) were fantastic hosts. Hung out with a pod of female dolphins and their calves very near to Sayulita, and further south towards Punta Mita saw several individual humpbacks in between their periodic dives and heard them singing with a hydrophone. We learned so much about whale culture and the research this company is doing from Esteban and got great tips from Aaron about local seafood. Highly recommend this company.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very cool experience, we went towards the end of whale season but still saw whales and dolphins and manta rays. The reasonable price and the captain and host were great. Safe boat and had simple snacks and drinks available, as it is mostly whale waiting rather than whale watching...but still an incredibly fun experience. They have a hydrophone so everyone could listen to the whales sing, and you can get in the water to hear the whales yourself!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sorry the pictures don't give our experience enough justice. We wish we could upload videos. Whales breaching everywhere. And with our Marine Biologist Esteban on board taking his own observations and sightings while giving us the best explanation and knowledge of what we were seeing and more, this was a magnificent experience for my wife and me. Gracias todos. Hearing the whales singing was also a new experience. This was an educational, personal, and tour de force trip. Humbles and forces you to marvel at the best that Nature can offer and show you. Go see whales with La Orca de Sayulita. You will be glad (and thankful) you did!
