Lunazul Surf School & Shop - 63734 Sayulita

I highly recommend it here. Carlos was my instructor and he was very knowledgeable, by the end of the class I was able to catch a wave on my own. Thank you Carlos! It was a great experience, plus you get a free hour of surf after your lesson and continued use of their lockers and the beach chairs outside of the school.

We took two lessons with Chito and were absolutely stoked at the quality of the coaching. We did one lesson in Sayulita and the next day drove to Stinky’s. It’s clear that they’ve developed an on-point system for explaining the fundamentals of surfing. It’s hard to imagine higher quality instruction. Plus, everyone in the shop was super friendly and willing to offer up advice on where the surf was best each day. Honestly, don’t go anywhere else. Thanks again, Chito ?

The team at Lunazul is the absolute best! I rented surfboards and SUPs from them throughout the month and they were extremely helpful and accommodating. The location is great- they have lockers, beach chairs, changing rooms and a spot to rinse off at. I took 2 surf lessons with them and was able to catch a few waves during the lessons. The lessons made me feel confident to try surfing on my own. On top of it all, the whole staff is just awesome. No matter who was working- Carlos, Ramiro, Panda, Papas, Cheeto, or Emmanuel- they were all friendly. They took time to chat with me and recommend the best parts of the beach to surf. And they were always, always encouraging…even when I felt defeated. I cant recommend the team at Lunazul enough. Get a lesson while you’re in Sayulita- you wont regret it!

Did 3 lessons with Panda. Highly recommend both the surf shop and Panda as an instructor. He was really patient with us and had a great attitude and was always smiling. Really helped us feel welcome and motivated us to challenge ourselves every day... the staff at the shop was extremely friendly and welcoming and really took care of us... Gracias, amigo! We had such a great time learning to surf with you...

I can’t say enough good things about these guys. From the first day I stepped into the shop to saying goodbye after two weeks of coaching and renting, I always felt I was among friends. I came with very minimal surfing experience, and I really struggled to stand up on a board when I arrived, so I needed lots of help and patience! I did three lessons with Chito, and one with Ramiro. Both instructors were knowledgeable and noticed the smallest details in my pop up that made a big difference. After just one lesson and some micro-adjustments to my pop ups, I was able to get up and stay on waves! I also learned how to read waves, how to time my paddling and pop up, and the best way to bail. The guys were really honest about the wave forecast and helped me to book lessons on the best days so I would get the best value. Kalle, the owner, was most helpful when planning my trip, and gave me all of the info I needed to get settled as a first time visitor. I did a day trip to Punta Mita with Chito and it did not disappoint! The water there is crystal clear and the waves are epic. Andres is the resident photog, and he took some really great photos during one of my lessons for me to take home, and also does video footage for feedback. It was so helpful to see what I looked like out there so I could make adjustments (and also who doesn’t want to share their cool new skills on Instagram, ha ha). Every single person at the shop is fun, helpful, kind, and professional. As a woman travelling solo it was also great to have some familiar faces to pop in and say hi to every day, even when I wasn’t taking a lesson. I could go on and on, but I’ll finish by saying if you are planning trip to Sayulita, whether you’re a seasoned surfer or a newbie like me, you need to go to Lunazul! You will be so happy you met these rad humans.

Hubby booked a surf lesson with these guys on Christmas Eve and what a cute shop with tons of selections from suits to boards available. The staff here are very friendly and were very accommodating to both of us even though I wasnt taking a lesson. Got to enjoy a chaise on the busy public beach while hubby did his thing. He learnt lots in his 1st lesson and enjoyed himself for a bit thereafter. If we had more time i would get up the guts to take a lesson too LOL. We will be back!

Great experience renting a longboard from them. Decent selection of boards and being right on the water is convenient. A couple of the guys working there did not seem as friendly but that did not bother me too much - I just needed a board for the water.

I cannot say enough about the service at Lunazul and specifically our instructor Chito!!! He was beyond patient, gave fantastic instruction and seemed genuinely as happy that we stood up as we were. We cannot wait to return! We took two lessons but would have taken more if we had time and the surf cooperated. Andres took great photos too and gave me some great advice about getting up too. He really went above and beyond to make our experience the best it could be. A great surf school for beginners, you could see their instructors helping others in the water that were not being paid. They cover everything, lockers, rashguards, photos and all crucial information that make you feel safe and prepared going into the water.
