★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great decor, mediocre and less than enough food on the breakfast buffet, inconsistent service, knats were everywhere around the fresh bread, The waitress did not listen to our order and it was incorrect, and she lied about having to go boxes or plate covers to take our food to our room. Hopefully dinner service is better..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Breakfast at Mercato is delicious! The buffet is pretty extensive and eggs, omelets, pancakes and French toast are available cooked to order. Our waitress, Susana, was lovely!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Playa has slowly been gaining a reputation as a bastion of food innovation. And I don't doubt that for a bit. I have been dining in some of Playa best-kept secrets for many years now, and I must say it's quite an experience. This so-called food revolution happening in the Playa Area has seen many of the country’s best new restaurants sprouting like mushrooms in this lush valley. And for those of you searching for a culinary experience like no other, look no further than Mercatto Italian Cuisine.
The restaurant is located in a very centric area, the interior it's modern and clean. The decor allows the simplistic beauty of the food to really shine, though beauty isn’t the only thing bringing folks to Mercatto. The restaurant buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons.
I started with Mercatto's delicious medium roast fruity chiapas illy's coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice and home made artisanal breads.
For breakfast, I decided to go with Mercatto make your own scrambled eggs filled with spinach, mushrooms crowned with mexican vegetables. The flavor of the green salsa balanced the richness of the sinfully tender manchego cheese very well. The dish was executed perfectly, and the bright colors of the ingredients peeking through the eggs was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. I did find the souce a bit too hot, but I know a lot of people who would be willing to pay top dollar for a dish like that. The servings were big and a bit pricey, but it was well worth it.
There were dessert breads, I went for the chocolate croissant Fatale: a dark chocolate. Paired with bittersweet dark chocolate chips it is simply divine.
Though I would love to be selfish and keep Mercatto all to myself, the work of Chef is too good to stay hidden for long. There’s no doubt that Mercatto will quickly become the hottest reservation in town.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the place where Hilton Gold and Diamond guests get their complimentary breakfast when staying at the Fives Downtown.
The American Breakfast consists of a fruit plate, bread basked and one special dish.
Fruit did not taste particularly fresh and the bread was stale and old. Service is a also pretty slow to order and to wait for order.
