★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have rented from Mex in Cozumel 12 times. The personnel and cars are always flawless. Alex and Arturo always go above and beyond, even calling to check mid-reservation to make sure everything is okay. Most of the complaints are from people who booked from 3rd party sites. Never do that, always book with the company directly, that goes for all travel bookings not just with Mex Rent a Car.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ do not rent a car from this company regardless who you use to book the rental. I booked with Priceline for $125 total and paid in advance. When I went to pick up the car, that is NOT in the terminal I was told to pay an additional $180 or $2500 deposit do to insurance requirements. I refused and had to find a cab instead. Now I am trying to get my $125 refunded from Priceline. Bottom line is you will lose.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ BEWARE. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. This was my 17th time on the island and I rent a car every time but this was my first time to use them. They tell you the US dollar amount and then charge you in pesos. That is fine and all but they give you a 22 peso per dollar exchange rate. The exchange rate right now is 20 on the dollar. Meaning you are paying at least 2 more pesos per dollar because they decided to come up with their own random exchange rate. My amount was supposed to be $340 in US and ended up getting charged $380 because of their crooked, made up exchange rate. Disputed and got money back but would not use this company and definitely would not recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Booked through expedia which said the hours were until midnight. We were left stranded at the airport because they actually closed at 8pm. Airport guards said tourists are regularly left in this situation.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I wish I could put zero! I highly doubt any of these positive reviews are real. We booked a compact car (~Yaris) online via Expedia, was supposed to be $10/day. When we arrived, they said we were late (which was true), so they didn't have a car. We ended up booking with Avis for a week, which was a great experience, so we decided to rent for another week. Unfortunately, we could not extend our reservation with Avis and decided to check Mex again. This time we paid for the car online, also via Expedia. When we arrived, they didn't have a car again! and said that we should have called them! They offered us a compact car for $66/day! While online it was $21! I hope this scammers will go out of business!
Do not go there! Check Avis online instead!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our little car was perfect for getting around the island. All the staff were friendly and courteous and the car was clean as a whistle when we picked it up. No issues with the car and it sips gas. Highly recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We missed our connecting flight from Denver to Cozumel due to the airline not being able to find a gate to connect to. We were quickly rerouted on another plane as soon as we deplaned the connecting plane. Due to the quick switch, I had no time to contact the car rental company to update them, and ended up going to pick up my vehicle the next day instead of the original date of my reservation. When I arrived, I was informed that not only had they rented that vehicle out, but they had no more vehicles on the lot to rent to us. Thankfully Hertz was able to rent us a car for our stay in Cozumel. I reached out to Expedia, who I booked the vehicle through, to request a refund. Mex Rent would not contact Expedia back, and so they were forced to forgo a refund on our behalf. I paid $440.80 for a car that I never even got to see or use. I am not pleased.
