Great place to exchange euros and dollars. A lot of local people so you know you’re in the right place. You even get an Official receipt and the rate was the best compared to the banks (dec 2018). Would definitely go here again next time. You can even change 500 pesos bills into small bills of 50 which is super handy of course

Heard sketchy details about the other walk-up windows with flags painted. This place was legit and official, had a security guard and a small waiting area. Same rate as all the other advertised, but the teller on the other side of the glass counted the money in front of you, had you fill out a decent amount of paperwork (passport required), and gave you a receipt. Would recommend this if you can't swing exchanging at a bank.

They had the best exchange rate in town, they were patient with us and gave us small bills and coins too which definitely made it easier to haggle prices on items in the local shops.

Safe place to exchange money in Tulum. The rates aren't too bad, usually less than two pesos off the standard rate that you can Google online (when exchanging from USD).

This place had the best rate in town - $18.90 per $USD - when we visited. It seemed to be a popular place with all the locals who needed to switch their dollars for mxn as well. There is surprisingly a lot of paperwork, took a bit longer than I thought but all good. The staff was friendly and always felt safe. Be sure to bring your passport - it’s required to verify you aren’t laundering money (so I’m told).

Even though they have a sign that exchange more than 1500 usd require additional docs, I have changed 2000 eur with the passport only. Not crowded and well conditioned place.

Gave us a great exchange rate (the best we found in town). Quick and no lines when we went. AC is a plus too. Don’t forget to bring your passport - you need it to make the exchange.

Not worth the extra pennies for the looooooooooong wait. Avoid if you are in a hurry ;) While it's the best exchange rate in Tulum thats only by 0.3 or 0.2 pesos. I rather get my money minus a few pennies and be on my way fast. You gotta bring your passport, fill a paper form, painfully wait while they scan it and type the info, print a receipt, count the money by hand and by machine...maybe ok for 10k not for 100 bucks. it took 10x more time than the other counters where they just need to see any photo id and no forms. On the upside...if you need to cool down, they have aircon lol. AND f you are optimizing for safety, they are a like a small bank (glass door and a counter) rather than a hole in a wall/ street facing counter.
