In Playacar gated community in Playa del Carmen there are two locations of Mayan ruins in neighborhood. It's well kept and free...great to walk around

Very cool little spot. A quick walk down the street from the RIU hotels. There are actually 2 spots. The ruins were kinda small but a great photo opt nonetheless. Mosquitos were a bit hungry so be alert. The first spot was cool but the second one had a trail that looped around. Walking from the hotels make sure to visit both spots. It is down the street on the same side as RIU Palace Mexico and RiU Palace Riveria Maya.

Very interesting. I haven't found much information, yet, but i noticed that the 3 ruins had their openings on top facing a cardinal direction. N, E, and W were represented. Perhaps there was a 4th building?

Probably not a known site. Found it as I was walking to Aviary. According to information at the site, there are many Mayan ruins along the Riviera Maya. It is hidden amongst trees and provides a very cool break area from the heat.

To get the entire experience of all archeological sites in Playacar, one can start at the three ruin buildings at the map point. From here there are three additional ruin sites that are a good walk apart. One can essentially make a circle starting from the first site then walking to the other three sites. The next site is across from sunset fishermen resort and is accessible by path from the roadway next to the original pin for the Playa del Carmen archeological site. This is a larger site with more expansive green space. Next, continue walking on the roadway in front of the sunset fishermen resort towards the city of Playa del Carmen and you will come to the next site on your left. Again, a larger ruin building and worth the walk. Finally if you continue walking towards, the Center of Playa del Carmen you will come across the largest site. There is a large amount of green space to sit and enjoy with your lover or walk to the buildings and take a trip back in time. The placement of the buildings was for security and fortification of the area amongst many other things. We saw a couple sitting there feeding an iguana which I have mixed feelings about. Animals should be left alone. There is a hidden path at the south edge of the last and largest site that connects to the beach or if you walk in the other direction (which looks like dead end at first) it takes you back to the main drag in Playacar for easy access to your resort. If you want to see all the ruin sites this review will help you see them all! Enjoy!!

Tbh there is nothing to see. It's inside a condominium, basically just rocks, not interesting ruins, you cannot see any proper temple or whatever you expect to see. Was the worst archeological site I've been in Mexico. Don't waste time, really, way better places and things to do.

3 small structures with vestiges of more constructions around. It is possible to climb on them. Atop each of them there is a small compartment which you can enter (no roof). For some reason, tourists like to stack rocks all over the place. No information on age or who lived there, but I naturally assumed they were Maya. All in all, worth a visit if you are staying in Playacar.

Interesting place if you are in the area. The main problem seem to be the irresponsible tourists who love to pile stones on top of the constructions. The ruins are spread out and the best ones are close to the beach. The place should be better kept and with better panels highlighting the importance of the place for pilgrims on their way to Cozumel, specially after all the different tourist taxes we pay.
