★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Mayan culture is alive and well in Mexico. I've been very fortunate to have some truly incredible experiences while traveling, but this one definitely is near the very top of the list. We were the only two tourists in a tiny Mayan village. Riding bikes to a vibrant blue lagoon in the jungle, learning about traditional medicinal plants, watching the process of a hand-made hammock, and tasting honey from a type of bee completely unique to this area, all the while getting to learn Mayan words and eat amazing food. 10/10, would recommend ditching the resorts to embrace what truly makes this country incredible.
