Was told to come down and that I did not need to stay at resort to eat at restaurant. Was turned away after walking 30min. Don't bother.

Its an out of this world experience eating here. I had a smoking bloody mary and the best 5 course meal I've ever had. Everything got a "wow"!

This is hands down the best steak I've had, the service is above and beyond. They leave you wanting for nothing and leaving happy and full. The atmosphere is on par with any 5 star restaurant I've been to. Thank you Sal's staff

Sal is an excellent steakhouse. The service is fast, the food is fantastic. I had the lobster and my partner had the steak. They were both done perfectly. The atmosphere is loungey with a DJ playing chill house music. Our server Roberto was amazing! He was very attentive, kind and ensured we were happy with everything. I highly recommend spending the extra funds to eat at Sal. You won’t regret it.

Worth the trek! After an hour of walking, getting lost, retracing our steps and finally finding the entrance, we got to enjoy a delicious and unforgettable Tomahawk steak dinner. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem in Playa del Carmen. Trust me, it’s worth the trip if you don’t mind a walk. How to Get Here If you’re not staying at the resort, then be prepared for a bit of hassle getting in. Especially if you’re walking there by foot, read this to save yourself from some confusion. So they have a very strict security protocol and if you come by foot, be prepared to be stopped at the front gate which is at the very northern tip of the whole resort. At the roundabout, there’s a water fountain and a gate for cars. That’s how you know you’re at the entrance. If you come by foot, you’ll need to get signed in by the security guard, who might be confused as to why you’re there, but just say you’re here for dinner at Sal Cave Steakhouse. We couldn’t make a reservation because their phone number didn’t work, not sure why. A driver picked you up at the gate in a golf cart. Apparently it happens all the time. You can also take a taxi there which is probably preferred, but gotta earn than steak walking, am I right? The Food The Tomahawk steak is 1.35kg or about 3lbs. It’s enough to feed two people without appetizers and it’s comparable to the best steakhouse in NYC so you should definitely get it! We got three sides and three sauces, but IMO you can skip the sauces and just ask for all the flavored salts they have—coffee, hibiscus, citrus and chili salt. The grilled vegetable side dish was my favorite. The Drinks Definitely get a bottle of wine. They don’t serve wine by the glass unfortunately. The perfect steak needs its accompaniment of wine to elevate the experience. Do say no to the tequila if they bring a bottle of the Clase Azul because that has a $30 usd per glass price tag. The golden margarita was pretty good since it’s on the citrusy side. The Rest We liked our waiters a lot, very attentive to our needs. The place was quite empty even around dinner time. Not sure if it was because of the season or the day of week (Monday) or something else, but we really enjoyed the secluded feel. We did get hit with two taxes at the end which added about $50usd to the total balance, but with 2 desserts and coffees added on top of drinks, a steak for two and sides, the total was only $300usd which includes a 20% tip. Also let them know if it’s a special occasion because they’ll give you an edible plaque as well. Hope you find the place and have a great meal!

While staying at Paradisus resort on our honeymoon, my wife and I ate at Sal Steak Cave. From the moment we arrived the experience was amazing. The entire restaurant is adorned with red lighting acenting the modern yet sophisticated decor. Once seated, the server was so pleasant and attentive. We ordered drinks from the mixology cart, and they where right on the money. After placing our order they brought the complimentary appetizers. They consisted of bread, blue corn tortilla, and accompanied by two types of butter and a smoked hummus. I ordered the stone crab starter, and it was delicious. The portion was enough to have as a meal. Then came our main course, which were equally impressive in size and presentation. The whole experience was more than worth the extra money since the restaurant is not included in the stay at the resort. This is up there with some of New York City's top steak house as far as quality of food.
