★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a wonderful dinner at Los Campos (sister restaurant) and were hoping for great things at Metate. The tacos were very good. The plantains were tasty too. The guacamole was, well, regular guacamole. The nopales tempura dish was bland and needed more of a dipping sauce or something. Cocktails were fine, but the selection is limited as this is more of a Mezcal place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a terrific place serving amazing food and delicious cocktails at a very reasonable price. Impressive bar and food menu. Both carnivores and vegetarians will be very happy here. The staff are tremendously helpful and attentive. Highly recommended!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Metate is a hidden gem in Guanajato!! It is a short walk from the city center and it is so worth it. The staff is great, so polite and friendly and our waiter was perfectly bilingual. The drinks are incredible - they have locally made mezcal and pulque - the pulque that is flavored with piña and guayaba were my favorite.The food!! All of the food is freshly made on site and so good - our group of 5 did the "buffet" and they brought us plate after plate of incredible dishes all for 150 pesos (about $8) each. Amazing!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent service, great menu options, excellent mezcal selection. I highly recommend the Chille tacos and guacamole side. If you're looking for traditional tacos, you won't find them here. These are artesian variety and what they came up with is definitely worth the try.

The place looks great, many Mezcal to try, and very good gourmet tacos!
Plus, there's another place upstairs with a nice patio and cocktails.

We felt super welcome here, the bartender and manager went out of their way to recommend dishes and offer advice on what we should do in the city during our visit. Cute place with great tacos (you must try the rosemary chicken taco, and the pork), lots of amazing mezcals to choose from, great vibe. Hope to come back soon!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great view. Originally attempted to eat at Los Campos at 8 pm but we needed a reservation. The maitre'd recommended the owners other restaurant. When we arrived we were the only party. 4 other parties eventually showed up. We had the porkchop and chicken. Both were good but not amazing.

I was sceptical going in (the place was filled with western foreigners, so I didn’t think I’d get a authentic experience)but was extremely pleased with all the tacos, the guacamole, the mezcal and the service. They were attentive and helpful (although slow at times). And we left very satisfied with our fill of delicious tacos with a twist.
